@Jennamaisa Cognitive Dissonance Theory is one that I also didn’t know the exact name for but have always experienced it. It was so interesting to apply these theories to my past experiences throughout the course. #UTcommTheory
@halannah_222 This is such a good takeaway from the course! There are so many layers to communication that you may not have thought of before and it is so interesting to see how those all work together to send a message #UTcommTheory
My biggest takeaway from this course is just how complex communication is. All of the theories and different layers to communication theory are way more involved than you would typically expect. There is a lot to be learned from knowing these theories. #UTcommTheory
My favorite theory that we covered throughout this course was cognitive dissonance due to the relatability of it to my own experiences. That topic specifically was easy for me to relay back to things in my life. #UTcommTheory
@fordlsophia Sometimes i’m shocked by what my feed seems to know. Regardless of it’s something I recently thought about or sometimes a video will appear of someone having the same symptoms that I do. The whole process of curated feeds is addicting but also bizarre #UTcommTheory
@fordlsophia What you said about the news is very true. People seem to take what they say for whole truths and aren’t aware that they hold strong biases and agendas. I certainly think most topics should be researched further than one news article #UTcommTheory
This article was on the front page of the fox news website making statements about the consequences if Biden gets re-elected. The conservative news is attempting to prevent that from happening as an example of media shaping public-agenda #UTcommTheory

I believe that if the media wants you to see something, they will make that happen. This matter pushes the agenda setting that they hold. #UTcommTheory
Based on what is explained in the video regarding facebook algorithm, I think agenda-setting is shared between self and media. The video shows that there is still a control over what is shown to you online, despite it being catered towards your interests. #UTcommTheory
@fordlsophia Taylor Swift is one that a lot of people relate with you over! She’s been in the media for so long that people have so many personal experiences with her and her music over the years. It is easy to develop this parasocial level when her career has been so prominent #UTcommTheory
@TStearns_UT I completely agree with this discomfort over the idea of few people having that much wealth and power. I struggle with the idea of accepting this high of an imbalance between workers and those higher up. #UTcommTheory
I chose to research Disney. Many companies are owned under this branch and in 2019 they spent over 22 billion dollars on advertising funds. I chose this gif because I’m not shocked that Disney controls so much of the media (ABC, ESPN, 21st century etc.) #UTcommTheory
I admit I have a lot of parasocial relationships.. for example, I have been a fan of Harry Styles for over 11 years now (basically half of my life). I often joke that we grew up together because of how consistently absorbed I have been in his life while living mine. #UTcommTheory
@fordlsophia This is such a relatable idea! Sometimes when you use a song lyric as a caption people take it very literally and read a lot into it. Good example! #UTcommTheory
@jamienajai The face to face communication that stopped during COVID-19 had such a poor impact on people, specifically children. It always intrigued me the outcome those times will/would have on kids who were in early education during that period. #UTcommTheory
This gif represents when you post something on social media and the invisible audience doesn’t correspond with the imagined. For example, when you post something expecting only friends to see it but your grandma texts you about it. #UTcommTheory
A benefit that COVID-19 had on comm technology is the ability to adapt to the new requirements. Zoom calls and virtual meeting rooms became more accessible and apparent in school/work environments, which then created room for these adjustments when needed later on. #UTcommTheory
@MattKlacik06 Award shows are the perfect place to pull an example of losing face from! Falling on the red carpet or up the stairs, making an embarrassing speech, reacting to a poor joke, or someone winning that you didn’t expect all would cause for someone to lose face #UTcommTheory
@fordlsophia Assertive Accommodation seems to be the most effective method in a lot of scenarios! It’s a great balance of being in charge but keeping others in account. I can see how this is valued! #UTcommTheory
One of the nine orientations I find myself most utilizing is avoiding. This is the cross-section of separation and nonassertive, and I tend to fall there in conflict situations. By this, I often look for ways out or distance myself from conflict #UTcommTheory
