@angelgrvce I agree, after Jim Crow had ended white people needed another way to put down an entire group of black people so they went with the incarceration system to fit modern society. It’s saddening that the school to prison pipeline concept is taken part into future generations #SOCL214

I think that one main concept that I would remember is that race is a modern social construction and not rooted in biology. A thing that I thought was so interested was when the U.S considering 51 cases in which “whiteness is what we say it is” came to be #SOCL214

@GenyuanL I agree, it was also shocking and sad to hear that about 1.2 million African American children are growing up with a parent who’s incarcerated and can be seen having behavioral problems, school achievement problems, and depressive symptoms. #SOCL214

In this weeks video, mass incarceration has always been a major issue in the U.S. in which the criminal justice system was set to incarcerate a entire social group and mainly concentrated on black men, later becoming an inherently trait to black boys. #SOCL214

@JozieSocl214 I agree, it was shocking to see that number and it doesn’t include the other ways to gain a Visa card. With the outdated-system and the departments that run it, no wonder why it takes a long time to process it not to mention the reasons behind rejecting a application. #SOCL214

In this weeks video, I learned that the U.S. immigration process has four different ways for gaining a Visa card which is applying for a green card lottery, employment application, EB-1 visa, or family relations which all take enormous time and money. #SOCL214

@thatgirlkyra1 I agree, it’s unfair that it’s based on the area and the property taxes as historically the U.S. has set Black and Latino communities in a spot that even with racial laws removed, there is still the sense of segregation. #SOCL214

In this weeks video, I did not know the history behind the racist ideologies implemented by suburbs developers such as William Leavitt to past on wealth and up the property leading to even middle income families unable to buy property. #SOCL214

@NobuatAhmed @dilynn_erngren I agree with you that it might lead to secondary discrimination but I think that it’s at least a right step to people who have been historically and presently discriminated against. That’s why it a important topic to be dealt with. #SOCL214

In the video of affirmative action, we learn that we have programs in place to ensure those who are historically discriminated against are gaining access to school and jobs and it remains a controversial issue for some people. #SOCL214

As a Asian American, there are standards that we must be good at everything &brings in phrases like, “Well if Asians can do this then why can’t Hispanics or Black people do the same.”It is an attempt to justify the systems build to bring down minority groups in the U.S. #SOCL214

In this weeks video, privilege is needed to be more discussed about even when some people may feel guilty of something that is not always in control over. To have a discussion means to understand the word privilege and the different types that are associated with it. #SOCL214

In the “Pelo Bueno, Pelo Malo” video, I learned that the older generations tend to have certain ideals that affect their kids and grandkids in a way making them feel as if there own hair isn’t beautiful in their natural hair. #SOCL214

In the video, I learned stereotypes that go along in the films as well as the white savior complex towards the audience that have representation. I’m glad that the oscars were boycotted because there are many films and black actors that deserve an award. #SOCL214

@dilynn_erngren I agree, intersectionality has multiple forms within it such as racism, sexism, and ableism and shouldn’t be overlooked. Understanding and recognizing this concept is the first step into taken in-account to the real world. #SOCL214

In this week’s video, I didn’t know the term where it originated but the concept of intersectionality provides a way of understanding forms of discrimination rather focusing on one. I think Kimberlé does a good job depicting the different movements and the concept of it. #SOCL214
