@AshleySilber3@SamanthaLCoy Teaching with the same cycle will create structure for the students and familiarity. Students do well with routines. #BESPLC
Q6: I will integrate SEL across all subject areas by structuring my lessons with the same cycle: model, practice, feedback, coaching. Math is very easy to do this with but ELA I want to focus more on this cycle.#BESPLC
@ColleenAdam4@SamanthaLCoy Having the flexibility to slow down to really reflect and fix will help build the SEL of our students. I feel like students reflect but then we don't give them the opportunity to adjust their work after the reflection. #BESPLC
Q5: I am going to show more sample work to show the quality of what I expect from them. If they know the expectations they will rise. Students will be able to self reflect on their own work and quality if they have a model. #BESPLC
A4: I think warmth & support are very important but I also think there is a line for too much warmth. Be there for their social well being and give them grace with what is happening at home. I think you have to do this with a line of student/teacher and not pal/teacher.#BESPLC
@JennCrawford16 I love how your students can call class meetings. It's like a family meeting when something important needs to be discussed. Same thing in the classroom...their classroom is their family. #BESPLC
Q3: Creating a community in the classroom centers around student choice. If students have a say then they have a stake in the community. I would like to add the service learning project idea for my class to be tutors to a younger class. Everyone likes to feel needed. #BESPLC
Q2 I think using specific words when discussing behavior will help the students regulate or monitor their actions. Also having them solve their own problems. Being the mediator and asking them, "what is your solution?". #BESPLC
@nbabladelis The logical consequences make a whole lot of sense. I wonder what a logical consequence is for not doing work. I guess take it home with a note to parent...instead of recess?
Q1 I plan is to have my students help design how the classroom runs. We will treat our classroom as a community where everyone plays a part in creating boundaries and roles. The more the students are involved in the running of our room the more invested they will be. #BESPLC
@ColleenAdam4 Colleen you did a great job masking your stress and anxiety because I did not see it in school! It must have really affected your well being if you are making it your personal goal. Teacher SEL is important, too! I would love to help you come up with a plan. #BESPLC
A5: My goal for next year would be to start with baby steps and progress as I learn. Emotional needs vary from person to person so learning how to reach everyone at once is a goal for me. #BESPLC
@JennCrawford16 I totally agree. Yes, we need to worry about our students but our own emotional well being cannot take a back seat. It's okay to have a countdown to a break because WE need it for our own sanity. Don't forget about yourself rather find the balance. #BESPLC
Q4: SEL is just as important for the adults. If a staff member's morale is low they will exhibit negativity. Finding the school's climate will help. Then looking at social pressures. If we are not whole, how can we help the child become whole? #BESPLC
@JennCrawford16 I totally agree it is the first thing students need. I also feel they are not getting this from home. A lot of what is missing should be a part of the learning that should take place at home...respect, manners, emotions, etc... #BESPLC
A3: My greatest take away was solidifying what I already know from teaching in a district with gangs and drugs. My kiddos needed the SEL before ANY academics could be taught and learned. I am very interested to read the strategies to combine the two. #BESPLC
@AshleySilber3@SamanthaLCoy The program does a great job adding the speaking prompts to set the tone for kindness. The students carry the discussion prompts to other content areas, too. I agree it makes them more aware of others. #BESPLC
A2: I see a difference in their confidence to share. BAW sharing piece helps them learn how to be respectful, productive listeners and better speakers. #BESPLC
