Never forget that Dan "Alien" O'Bannon, who co-wrote Dark Star with Carpenter, never wanted to speak to him again after seeing Assault on Precinct 13. He thought there was something wrong with him and how he saw humanity. He may even have been right.

This was last night's re-watch. It doesn't quite hold together, and the misogyny* does itch watching it 25 years later, but Vampires is probably a little underrated overall. It's got a great dusty, sweaty style, and James Woods is cool AF in it.

*Especially because it's mostly directed at Sheryl "Laura Palmer" Lee! But considering the treatment of Danny Baldwin, it's arguably more reflective of Carpenter's general misanthropy.
