Strong winds and rough seas but a decent spring tide allowed us access to survey kelp populations. Adults look battered and tatty after storms but plenty of baby recruits and other seaweeds (incl Codium, green sea fingers) 🌱 🌊 ☀️ @thembauk @bps_algae

We have successfully generated more @PacBio sequencing data for Colin 🦞. Most reads are in the 15-25 Kb range but we have a number of super-long reads which will hopefully improve the #genome assembly!

@DanSmale1 @KirstyLMacleod Lots of evidence that kelp and lobsters are actually ecologically linked: holdfasts must make great juvenile nurseries, and lobsters eat urchins to prevent kelp loss by overgrazing.
