Puniyani's refers this story from Dr. Pattabhi Sitaramayya's book "Feathers and Stones"

From the way Puniyani says it, you would think the book is a serious scholarly work.

It's not...it is a diary of random stories he had heard from random people sitting in jail.

See the original of what Sitaramayya wrote: He says someone told him this story that he had heard about a friend of a famous Mullah who claims to have seen a manuscript somewhere.

Who told Sitaramayya the story? We don't know!

Who was the friend that guy had heard the story from? We don't know!

Who was the famous Mullah that friend had heard the story from? We don't know.

Where is the manuscript that Mullah claims to have seen? We don't know.

So Ram Puniyani is passing off a 4th hand oral story about a possibly unknown manuscript as settled history!

And btw, Sitaramayya literally writes in the introduction of his book that nobody should take his book seriously ... these are random stories he heard!

Since Preity Zinta is in news, here is an incident to show how gutsy and principled she truly is :

In 2001, diamond tycoon and film financier Bharat Shah was arrested under MCOCA for helping underworld don Chhota Shakeel finance 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke' through extorted funds via producer Nazim Rizvi.

As the case unfolded, 14 prosecution witnesses turned hostile, including big names like Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Rakesh Roshan, Sanjay Gupta, and Mahesh Manjrekar.

But Preity Zinta stood tall. Despite threats and pressure, she didn’t back down. In a sea of retractions, she was the only major Bollywood star who stuck to her statement, that too at a time when the underworld had major control over Bollywood.

Though Bharat Shah escaped with minimal punishment, thanks to a weakened case full of hostile witnesses, and honest judiciary, Preity’s courage remains a rare moment of integrity from Bollywood.
