@thetrainline @northernassist picture this: I buy an adv. ticket for the 10:54 from Chinley to Manchester, only for it and the next two trains to be cancelled. Walk to Whaley Bridge. When I'm nearly there, I look again and the 11:54 and 12:54 have been uncancelled.

@thetrainline @northernassist experience tells me that my ticket won't be accepted on the Whaley Bridge service and I'll be at risk of a penalty fare if I try, so I buy a ticket from Whaley too. My original train was cancelled, but I can't get a refund from either of you.

@YWHelp thanks for the unsolicited offer of compensation for the flooding in my cellar for *checks notes* the last two and a half years. Unfortunately your offer doesn't even cover the cost of a month's running of the sump I had to install to limit the structural damage.
