The reason the Holdo Maneuver is worse has little to do with the logic behind it, physically.

We all understand the concept: "thing moving really fast destroys whatever it hits". That's what a bullet does. It's not confusing.

The issue is that, if hyperspace allows this possibility, then all space combat would be based around it, and frankly the Death Star itself shouldn't have even been remarkable, or necessary. You could simply strap a hyperspace engine to any large rock and destroy any planet you want at will.

The issue is entirely about what it means for all of the films before it, and going forward. Previously, we were forced to conclude that such a thing could not be done, for whatever reason (maybe hyperspace was an alternate physical space/dimension for instance), or else all space warfare would have been entirely based around it. Apparently, this assumption was wrong, thanks to The Last Jedi. (Rise of Skywalker semi-retcons this which causes its own host of narrative issues.)

As for the destruction of the New Republic with Starkiller Base? Sure, the way it was portrayed is incredibly stupid, from a physics/astrophysics perspective. Far more so than the Holdo Maneuver, as at least there's a very straightforward explanation for it. But the narrative issues here are, in fact, smaller in scope.

Yes, The First Order being such an incredibly powerful and influential force is super weird, but that would be true even had Starkiller Base not been introduced. Yes, it's a cheap way to up the stakes, but it's also not outside the realm of believability since it's just a super Death Star. (The thousand Death Star Destroyers in Rise of Skywalker are far stupider in that regard since it means the Death Star is just something you can mass produce now.)

Regardless, Starkiller Base's destruction of the New Republic is dumber at a surface level, but it's hardly destructive to the entire narrative the way the Holdo Maneuver is, so people cared less.
