Players...You never know...an opposing coach, a parent from another team, the umpire, the other team's trainer, a coach at the game to see another player, a fan, the bus driver, etc. You never know who may get a call about you from a coach and/or scout. Respect your last name!
How I like youth and HS pitchers to pitch/train during summer baseball:
1) Low innings & pitch counts. Training days are valuable. Don’t lose them to a sore arm.
2) High intent innings. Learn to trust the fastball.
3) Get stronger. (Duh)
4) Learn to sprint as fast as you can.
Don’t be the player who is too cool to go hard. Whether in a workout or a game, 100% is the bare minimum. Cool has no place in the game. Cool won’t impress anyone, won’t get you more playing time, won’t ever get you better. Cool will keep you on the bench. Cool will get you beat!
Weighted balls have been a tool for building arm strength and speed for decades. #Dodgers@claytonkersh22 explains how he utilizes them in his training.
Can’t say it enough…young players: if you can ever get to the ballpark early enough to watch the pros play catch, do it! And pay attention! Every throw is always on the money. Simplest part of the game that gets overlooked the most #playcatchwell
Warm up to throw, don’t throw to warm up.
Even when everyone else picks up the ball, you are the person in charge of taking care of your own arm and health.
Players: A single is always a double out of box. A double is always a triple. Always looking to take the extra base. Hard 90s w hard turns are mandatory! That single you hit where it took you 6.5 seconds to get to 1st w/o a turn is not a good look! Be a dirtbag! Always hustle!
Every athlete regrets not doing the “boring stuff” sooner.
Yoga, pilates, meditation, therapy, nutrition and sleep.
These things are not embarrassing. They are the difference between good and great.
Extra workout in on a Friday AM…2 hours turned into almost 3 because they wanted it..As Coach Lopez says, “got to get those reps in”. Lets get after it!! @LHSAthleticsFCS#TRADITION
