We are heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend, Kevin Keegan.

Kevin was so much more than a teammate. He was a lifelong friend whose warmth, loyalty, humour and passion for football touched so many lives. The memories they shared, both on and off the pitch, will be treasured forever.

Although Terry’s dementia means he is no longer able to express his feelings publicly, we know how much Kevin meant to him and how deeply this loss would have affected him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jean, Laura, Sarah and all of Kevin’s family at this incredibly sad time. We hope they find comfort in the love and respect being shown for Kevin by so many people.

Kevin was one of football’s true greats, but to Terry he was, above all, a cherished friend.

Ed Miliband has used his first statement as the UK's new foreign secretary to ignore his Labour Party’s backing for Israel’s genocide in Gaza. While promising to defend democracy, international law and the “rule of law on the world stage”, Miliband condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but described Gaza only as a site of “terrible suffering”, erasing both Israel’s responsibility and Britain’s role in enabling its assault. Labour continued licensing arms exports to Israel while in government and resisted demands for a comprehensive embargo, even as the International Court of Justice imposed provisional measures in the genocide case against Israel. 

The statement otherwise signals continuity rather than change. Miliband praised the work of Yvette Cooper and David Lammy, pledged to strengthen Britain’s alliances with the United States, the European Union and NATO, and promised continued support for Ukraine. His brief reference to seeking peace in Palestine and Israel is framed alongside “security for the people of Israel”, but contains no commitment to ending British arms supplies, imposing sanctions or securing accountability for Israeli crimes. For all its language about justice and international law, the statement suggests those principles will continue to be applied selectively.

A year ago today I was violently arrested dragged down stone steps painfully handcuffed roughly handled by a gang of thuggish police who managed knock my glasses to the pavement, expose the top half of my body, all of my bra and not one of them, man or woman did the decent thing to save me being exposed. I’m 75 now. I didn’t shout, struggle or give any sort of abuse or even disrespect the police. I was peacefully holding a piece of paper with words on- nothing more. I was held in a cell until 11.30 and effectively held under house arrest for weeks. I’m charged under the terrorism act. The court dates keep getting changed and we are a real problem. I feel a connection with the thousands of us who have done this - Im proud that we are fighting for our freedom of speech, our right to protest and against genocide. It’s not much but it’s the least we can do.
