Most people: Wow, I did THAT. Let’s celebrate!
Autistic and ADHD me: I know that I achieved something and others celebrate such wins, but it’s no big deal for me because everybody does it/it was easy. Plus, there’s still more I need to do on this, so it’s too early to celebrate.
If something is ongoing it will remain an open tab in my Autistic ADHD brain until it’s done. I’ll be thinking about it and processing it until every little thing connected to it is 100% done. Then I’ll panic about it for a little while afterwards, until other ‘tabs’ distract me.
Me: Here are thousands of global medical studies on post-acute Covid damage, organized by topic, along with a public list of 300+ researchers, doctors, authors, professors, scientists, patients & data gatherers.
Reply Guys: Here's a video of Mr. Rogers putting on a clown mask.
Ableism is telling yourself that you’ll never become disabled; that you’re invincible and it couldn’t ever happen to you. ANYONE can become disabled and it’s actually inevitable that you will be once you age. Caring about disabled people is caring about your future self.
Being a mood reader is extremely shitty because yes I want to read and I will gladly binge 400,000 pages, stay up all night, ignore my life, but only if it’s this very specific kind of story that fits within these incredibly precise parameters and vibes I’ve been craving
“Fiction ruined me for romance” is a valid point but you know what it really ruined me for? Friendship. The biggest lie it ever told me was that I would find a ragtag group of idiots who were my exact brand of weird and we would love each other forever
This is why you can't base my productivity levels on how many hours I work. And it's why I don't feel bad if I only work 6 hours one day, because I KNOW I got 20 hours of work done. 🤷🏽♀️
And much of the time, for me, working MORE hours actually results in LESS output.
With ADHD I have exactly three types of work days:
✔️ Get absolutely nothing done
✔️ Get 4 hours of work done, at a random time of day
✔️ Get 40 hours of work done in 8 hours
5. I have a million ideas zooming through my mind all the time, but when I sit down to write/create them, my mind goes blank.
6. I thrive in stressful situations—my productivity SOARS under pressure. But also, emails stress me out to the point where I avoid my inbox altogether.
3. I can hyperfocus on reading about the invention of paper towels, but it's a STRUGGLE to focus on things that are important (or even relevant)
4. I can remember what I ate for lunch that one time when I was 8, yet I forget what I was talking about halfway through my sentence.
My ADHD contradictions 🧵
1. When I need to be somewhere, I give myself PLENTY of time to get ready. Yet, somehow, I still end up rushing around the house looking for my shoes & phone 5 min after I needed to leave
2. I need orderliness to function, but my default mode is chaos
ADHD is like 50% not working, 50% working frantically to make up for the not working part, 50% thinking about the work I should be doing (but not actually working), and 50% not sleeping (but trying to).
„Ich war absolut entschlossen, jetzt auf die Straße zu gehen und sie zu blockieren. Aber wir sehen, dass die Klimakatastrophe für uns übernimmt“, sagt Svenja (19) in #Nürnberg#Unwetter#LetzteGeneration
