The majority are still struggling to meet basic needs? The billionairs are just none of your business. Just hope there will be less billionaires but more individuals that out of poverty🙏🏻
Surprised to see so many comments hoping have more billionaires. For sure it could mean successful ultra-large multinational corporations, it also means extremely unequal distribution of property. Dose it really helps when the living in an area with a high average income while

Until this moment I could believe there's really someone in the world doesn't want peace but war. Interesting
THE GLOBAL MOVEMENT against the demonization of China is mourning the early death of ShanghaiPanda.
This resident of the bustling megapolis became a one-man army against the west’s portrayal of his country as a giant dystopian gulag.
ShanghaiPanda died on 16 August after a short illness, leaving friends and family in shock—and his 172,000 followers on X from around the world expressing sadness.
“His life was characterized by diligence and earnestness, kindness and generosity, responsibility for his family and enthusiasm for his friends,” his wife said yesterday to his followers.
He never revealed his real name or showed his face, which is why this piece is illustrated with an artist’s impression.

VOICES FROM THE WORLD
In a single day, more than 2,000 voices from around the planet expressed their sadness at his passing.
“We never met face to face, but he had a friend, a comrade, a brother in Türkiye,” said Ali Alsaç. “It was clear that he was a revolutionary who lived his life for the benefit of humanity.”
A European, Patti Haag, said: “ShanghaiPanda opened so many eyes with his posts about China. The world is better for having had him here and we will miss him.”
Technologist Venkatesh Rao said Panda’s posts “offered a rare and thoughtful window into life in China—illuminating everyday moments with clarity, warmth, and insight. His voice resonated far beyond borders, and his presence online was a quiet but powerful source of connection and understanding.”
.
STANDING AGAINST DEMONIZATION OPS
ShanghaiPanda was in his mid-30s when he joined what was then Twitter in May of 2013, with the ID @thinking_panda.
At the time, multiple three-letter US groups, including the CIA, the NED, and the Oslo Freedom Foundation (which is based in the US despite the name), were in the middle of a two-year preparation program for a Hong Kong destabilization operation, to follow similar well-financed, long-planned ops in Tibet, Xinjiang and Taiwan.
As the operation was launched, Panda became a soldier for the truth, but with a touch of humor.
For example, when protest leaders in Hong Kong, financed by the NED and RFA, called for a boycott of goods from mainland China, Panda wryly noted that almost all the food in the city, including 100% of its favorite dish, roast pork, came from across the border.
The US-financed Hong Kong protesters can live on “onions and black tea”, he suggested, as not all of that vegetable came from the mainland.
.
KEEPING WATCH
When the US accused China of using “slaves” to pick cotton in Xinjiang, Panda noted that commercial cotton-picking was largely automated, and uploaded a video of a Chinese family engaging in cotton-picking as an educational, fun activity, in the same way that western families might go fruit picking.
He was also eagle-eyed. When the US cut funding for China demonization groups such as IPAC, USAID, and the NED (and by extension the thousands of units they financed), he showed how Hong Kong Watch had abruptly launched a fundraising campaign—and how, after three days, “almost nobody donated”.
.
PAINSTAKING EXPLANATIONS
ShanghaiPanda’s depth of knowledge and clarity of explanations made him stand out.
When western media said China was lawless, he showed the Chinese legal system at work by painstakingly describing the multiple stages of a minor lawsuit in which he was involved.
People around the world expressed amazement, especially at the clever use of technology to create a “digital court system” so people didn’t have to physically travel to court for every hearing.
When people argued that only the west was democratic, Shanghai Panda responded in characteristic detail with a multi-post description of how China’s governance system worked – showing how bottom-up democratic consultation produced policies that were then implemented by officials who had risen, mostly through meritocracy.
.
CLEAR-EYED ON CORRUPTION
Yet he was also clear-eyed and honest. He talked of “China's three chronic diseases: The real estate industry's bubble; the medical system's corruption; and the education system's inequity.”
But he also noted that Xi Jinping’s administration was actively working on fixing all three.
.
UNAPOLOGETIC
This voice for the truth could be very blunt at times.
When US-financed China demonizer Frances Hui claimed asylum in the US and complained that Hong Kong then cancelled her passport, ShanghaiPanda replied to her with a simple statement of the facts:
“You took orders and money from the US government. You incited riots and division, and what you did is a felony in any normal country.”
.
NOT VERY DIFFERENT
But perhaps the biggest part of his legacy was to show to the world, with a plethora of examples, that China was not a unique, monstrous danger to humanity, but a community not very different from communities around the world.
For example, ShanghaiPanda told the world about the 12345 telephone number that residents of his city could call, and showed how civil servants were standing by to listen to complaints and provide advice.
He translated one complaint to show how a disabled man had been irate about not being able to park his car near the hospital, and the civil servants’ response that they had told the hospital to fix the problem.
.
THE POWER OF ONE
Shanghai Panda was not part of some big international news media company, or a TV presenter with a camera team, or a celebrity earning big bucks on YouTube.
He was just a man who disliked the unfair demonization of a huge chunk of humanity—and, sitting at his desk in an apartment in China’s most populous city, he managed to become a much-appreciated worker for the truth.
Rest in peace, good and faithful servant.
You have laid down a path. Others will follow.
