STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF ZO AND MEITEI DEATHS FROM MANIPUR VIOLENCE Source: Institutionalised Political Violence in Manipur: A Threat to India’s National Security Threat in the Eastern Frontiers, The Inevitable Split Volume II. The data in the book is for the dates between May 3 to August 15, 2023. The details of the Meitei deaths are sourced from the reports of Imphal-based The Sangai Express and Imphal Free Press by the book’s publication team to maintain objectivity and avoid possible and unintended bias in data collection. Overall, the Zo ethnic tribes have a higher death toll, more than double that of the Meitei community. Most of these deaths occurred in the Valley districts, before the exchange of populations took place. This gives strength to the argument that the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur is a State-sponsored genocidal ethnic violence against the Zo ethnic tribes. The location of Meitei deaths in connection with the ethnic violence in Manipur shows that Meitei deaths are nil in the interiors of the Hill districts. This means that no Meitei civilians were harmed inside Zo territory till the time of data collection. Meitei deaths are concentrated exclusively in the buffer zones, mainly on the side of the Zo territory, providing solid statistical evidence that almost all Meiteis who lost their lives did so while attacking the Zo villages near the buffer zones. The death toll for Zo ethnic tribes is spread out across all age-groups, indicating how indiscriminately they were targeted by the Meitei mobs and militants. Even helpless children and elderly persons, numbering at least 23, were lynched to death. In contrast, the Meitei death toll is concentrated in the age group between 18-59 years. Upto 97 percent of all the Meitei deaths are accounted for by men. This means that the Meitei deaths comprise mainly of able-bodied men. KUKI-ZO MEDICAL STUDENT WAS ATTACKED BY A RADICAL MEITEI MOB Agnes Neikhohat Haokip, a 20-year-old Kuki woman training to be a nurse, was attacked by a mob in early May. The state has been carved up in an effort to prevent the targeted violence that engulfed it in the conflict'searly days. On the evening of May 4, a 20-year-old nursing student, Agnes Neihkhohat Haokip, was in her dormitory in the state capital, Imphal, when a gang of about 40 men stormed in and dragged her away. "Rape her! Torture her! Cut her into pieces!" Meitei women shouted as the attackers pummeled Ms. Haokip, knocking out her front teeth and biting her hands as she tried to pick up her teeth. Three weeks later, Ms. Haokip, who is a Kuki, remained in an intensive care unit. Down the hall, in the morgue, lay ample evidence of the civil conflict she had been fortunate to survive: 23 corpses, most with bullet wounds to their chests or stomachs, still unclaimed. "I am so scared that I cannot push that evening away from mymind," Ms. Haokip said, sobbing into her hospital pillow. "I worry for my future." She said. We further would like to announce to the general public that if they see any such people moving around in plain clothes and behaving in a suspicious manner , they should take action on them as they see fit. We would also like to voice our frustration at the Selective Targeting of Kuki-Zomi-Mizo people in the investigation of cases by even central agencies. We will oppose the biased selection of Police cases involving our people while the numerous cases of heinous crimes against our people are left ignored.
