This is a close election in BC but I think there is also a story to be told about how important the Green Party is in this province. I think the NDP needs to understand that there is a not an insignificant amount of people that voted Green this round. Kudos @SoniaFurstenau
@ShannonBDouglas@Niigaanwewidam It's a historically a slur(some old timey racism)used against Indigenous peoples all over N.America to justify "civilizing" or "saving." This is not new slur nor are the arguments justifying it's use to anyone FNs. It's old, offensive and easy to look up why. No racist replys pls
@CdnUnFiltered @fumano Weirdly I have been rereading An Inconvient Indian by Thomas King. Worth a read if you haven't ... definitely topical to this whole thread. My heart is heavy reading through here so it's time to take care and do other things.
@CdnUnFiltered @fumano To answer your question - It has historically been used as a derogeratory term for indigenous peoples in Canada and America and was used as a way of saying they needed to be "civalized" or "saved". It's not a new slur - it's the same old racist garbage.
@luptyd@HerCuriousBooks@fumano Anyways good luck to you - should probably do something other with my free time than what was previously known as Twitter.
@luptyd@HerCuriousBooks@fumano Honest question - Are you American? Canada has a Charter of Rights and Freedoms - specifically Freedom of Expression protected speech for the press but to rally your point - FS would also give us a right to call out racist garbage when we see it. https://t.co/sXeo6B2lfS
@luptyd@HerCuriousBooks@fumano Can't really assume things (about people either). The Conservative canadate was being racist and it's not a new trope. Posting things about the Haida pre-contact to justify saying - see they were "savage" is, sadly, not new either. https://t.co/ts8fIslR3k
@nathancullen Especially since she is potentially representing a riding that has a lot of FNs people. That is some straight-up racist garbage. After reading the article she was looking for some reason to spew hate. I voted NDP instead Green in this riding because of this. Wish us luck.
@HerCuriousBooks@fumano They did but tbh this shouldn't just be on FNs - it's on us as a community to call her out too. Absolutely she should aplogize but after reading the article I think she needs to reflect on who she is representing in this riding. Hope my vote will help keep her out of office.

Imagine that! The Canadian Paediatric Society putting out a position statement on Literacy in school-aged children: A paediatric approach to advocacy and assessment. It comes out the very day I addressed the @bctf executive about their literacy memo. #bced https://t.co/0LwYOo88DV
Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives have been calling on Justin Trudeau to release the names of allegedly compromised parliamentarians.
But law enforcement and national security agencies have been clear: sharing any classified information is a crime. https://t.co/ESnj0o3ioO
@CindyDalglish@bcndp@bctf@CUPEBC I hope this is true for #bced - I teach Gr.1 and early support is so important. More early intervention and support for the youngest learners could mean that we help them get off to the right start and feel more successful at school. Early identification and help is key.
