@pee_zombie I had a teacher who resembles some of what you're describing, and this thread really resonates.
I've tried to explain this to people - that simply being in their presence transfers some of this voltage to you, and you're left trying to find a way to discharge it safely.
That’s the sum of zen practice: just letting those toes do their thing, just sitting, just driving, just working, just living. Enlightenment is lived in that “just.” 7
I learned this model for forgiveness practice from Guy Armstrong, spending perhaps 5-10 minutes per step (and it is a modern creation, doesn't show up per se in the canon):
1) "If I have hurt or harmed anyone, knowingly or unknowingly, I ask for forgiveness"
Inaction has a lower potential for damage than action.
Action may cause you to gain more information and experience, but it also may cause suffering.
Suffering is natural, but it is not, in and of itself, noble.
building a new religion & just pretending it’s an old religion is overpowered
“Buddhism” that westerners have pulled together the past few decades doesn’t resemble Buddhism as practiced basically anywhere by anyone
Now people are “converting” to a “Christianity” w the same vibe
@vividvoid I'm sorry that you've been boxed into this identity cage and it's chafing - it's not a good feeling to be pigeonholed into being "the ____ guy" because it's something you do well.
It's not an exact analog, but this song is coming to mind:
