Parents often send me similar 'attendance ladders' to this, and tell me how damaging they are for their children.
Why?
Imagine you have a medical condition which means you need to go to appointments or are regularly ill - and when you get back into work, you're greeted with a poster like this at the front desk, telling you that your absence was a 'very poor show and needs fixing'.
Would it make you any less ill?

Imagine you've been extremely stressed by work and so you've been off with anxiety - and then you get a message saying 'come on, I thought you were better than this?'.
Would it make you any less stressed?

These types of poster assume (and tell everyone else) that absent children aren't trying hard enough and that it's just down to effort. They demonise families and children who are struggling.

In addition, they are simply illogical. If you aren't learning at school - or you're too ill or stressed to learn - then 100% attendance won't solve that problem.
Shaming those who struggle won't turn them into those who excel. No matter how much you tell them it will have a 'massive impact on your future'.

We can do better.
