@PikminGuts92@Jonathan_Blow@theo That's it right, being a good developer, a good person even, is to realise you've made a mistake, own up to it, and work to be better.
Nah, @theo only cares about engagement, and views that are "good" for him. Gotta curate that timeline.
True… However I’m assuming you’re trying to suggest than Jon’s language does exist.
But I imagine in your mind “publicly available” is the only thing that matters because in your world, it doesn’t matter if something is good, only that it’s out there.
Because you only care about engagement, rather than building something good.
@theo@cmuratori@rfleury Casey has worked with Jon… so he would know if he’s pleasant to work with.
Jon obviously has technical skill.
Jon has obviously shipped plenty of times and continues to do so.
And I think you picked the last one because you are aware of the popular view of Jon’s attitude.
@theo@cmuratori@rfleury And I imagine that last one, is shaped by all the YouTube channels that like to clip from his stream about anything that’ll be controversial.
You actually watch interviews with Jon, or his lectures and it’s a different story.
@stillnotinscope@theo@cmuratori@rfleury One could argue a willingly disingenuous one as well, but at the same time relying on nobody actually watching the very video he included in the post?
Weird.
Actually, it's three, I missed that you cut "there" as well.
Looking at the full quote, you can see he's actually talking about the environment of web dev. Not developers personally.
He's arguing that the environment web developers are in is more complex than it actually should be, and the developers being "raised" in that environment are suffering as a result.
What was your point again?
@theo@cmuratori@rfleury “You almost can’t be a good programmer there”
It’s there in the video you included, why cut the first two words from the quote?
@rfleury Jon literally shipped a new version of the compiler today. Just because @theo can’t see it, doesn’t mean Jon isn’t shipping.
He’s just salty that Jon is better than him.
LLMs aren't intelligent, even on the latest models you can still get it into a loop where it keeps trying the same thing (even with slight variations) over and over again.
It doesn't realise it's in a loop.
Where did Vi go? All these AI bros have a very shallow view, they see it do a segment of the style, and think "That's it solved! Traditional movie making is dead."
One mentioned "We can all be James Cameron" on another one.
No, you can't. There is more than how it looks on this shallow level. This is inconstant. If done right, this scene could have been played out by cosplayers acting and a director with an iPhone, IF the actors, director and editor have the right talent and eye.
That's why stage plays work, not because of the looks, but because of the dialogue and acting.
What they're not realising, is there's diminishing returns. We're supposed to have had fully self-driving cars by now (I'm talking EVERYWHERE, total human replacement) it's been researched for decades.
This will be the same, it's going to sit in some weird uncanny valley. I can see it being used as a select SFX tool for certain things. But if you think you can make a movie or TV series from this, and have it look "right" it's not happening yet.
