Recent conflict has displaced 110k+ people in #Somalia.

Climate factors are driving needs & displacing people, esp prolonged dry conditions &low rains.

Needs are rising but funding for aid operations is plummeting. As of April, the 2025 humanitarian appeal is just 9.2% funded.

🚨Marehan residents in Luuq, #Gedo flee by the thousands as the indigenous rahanweyn clan militias regain control of the town after 4 days fierce clan fighting with the Marehan Darood clan militias.

The town’s major market was burned down by the Marehan militias as the town fell into the hands of the rahanweyn clan.

The fighting has subsided after 4 days long fighting and there are currently attempts to make peace between the two clans by the Jubaland authorities and African union peacekeepers from Ethiopia.

But this conflict is long from over. It has been dragging on ever since dictator Mohamed Siyad Barre moved thousands of his Marehan clan members to Gedo in an attempt to change Gedo’s demographics in favor of his clan and displaced the indigenous rahanweyn clan, who are now growing tired of being abused and marginalized in their own native region by newcomers.
