Sad to hear about a layoff at DigitalOcean affecting the developer education and editorial teams. Those teams were essential for the maintenance of their tutorial base, which made them famous with developers in the first place. It's really the end of an era
I thought I was pissed about the @digitalocean layoff yesterday, but then I read the earnings call from this morning. Here's the highlights.
* Revenue grew 34% YOY last year🤔
* Approval to buy back 500 million stock
* Already bought back 600 million worth of stock last year
The caliber of this team cannot be understated. I owe my career to what I learned from this team. Hire these people quickly because they won't be on the market long.
Also, @digitalocean fucked up royally by abandoning the lifeblood of their company, the tutorials. Best of luck.
In my time at DO, Brian helped me to grow as a tech writer. @lisaironcutter supported and uplifted us. Hollie inspired all. And the community of highly talented tech writers and contributors lovingly and thoughtfully created tutorials for everyone to learn and grow as engineers.
My former team at @digitalocean got let go.
If you liked the content on DigitalOcean community, and you’re in the market for top notch technical writers and editors, contact me. I know fantastic people looking for work.
If I had open roles you wouldn’t see this message.
I can't believe my DigitalOcean fam got let go.
I wrote tutorials for the DO community and deeply believed in my work, even when we had to CONTINUALLY justify a business investment in community.
Sending love and empathy to those on new paths.
@JayKariesch @tidelift Thanks for the callout! The team and I have been working with Denis to resolve his payment concerns, and unfortunately our options here are limited, as we've discussed with him directly. We’re happy to chat more with Denis to come to a resolution that works for all!

@jesslynnrose Igalia is a democratically organized worker-owned cooperative. We work on F/OSS technologies and have awesome colleagues all over the world. We're especially interested in hiring folks from groups underrepresented in tech.

@SandyTMac Agreed. It's a bit convoluted to learn, but similar once you get into the right servers. First, go to https://t.co/VJFycQ0S1t to pick a server, then use https://t.co/vqYbVbTE2V to find friends. Here's how to create a profile: https://t.co/EWDi37NZuQ
