Enjoying Whitney et al 2021, HCI Tactics for Politics from Below: Meeting the Challenges of Smart Cities. https://t.co/ZBSg0zSave
(A great read for what happens when diverse citizen perspectives are left out of smart city design and implementation. Plus how to include them!)
BIG development. New EU AI draft rules say 'any natural person whose personal data is being processed by an emotion recognition system or a categorisation system shall be notified that they are exposed to such a system' (Art. 42(2)). https://t.co/lVqAkl5IFY
On what regulation might look like, see ethical recommendations produced by @digi_ad and @paminthelab. We'd make a few changes, but what say you?

My @MediaBangor Y2/Y3 Digital Advertising students were on 🔥 today discussing empathic media and emotional AI, reaching a philosophical level of debate. It felt as if we were in a room together debating this resonant topic IRL. So proud of them! @digi_ad@EmotionalAI@MPCBangor
With input from us at the @EmotionalAI Lab. Worth noting that age really is the key variable when it comes to uses of data about emotion. Over the years we find that young folk not keen (but more open if in control), with older folk most likely to reject in all circumstances.
'Emotional AI in the Wokeplace'? Fascinating how all parts of the political matrix have their critical on take on this topic! Article by @AndrewOrlowski for @Telegraph, featuring @digi_ad and findings by the Emotional AI Lab.

This is on our reading list too! The deceptive manipulation of people's emotions across social media platforms (currently the most prevalent of 'emotional AI' companies) has profound policy implications. Our MRes Digital Futures & Governance students shall reflect upon this.
