Security forces in Buurhakaba district have reportedly been placed on alert amid fears of a possible attack after the deputy commander of the South West State Special Police, known locally as Birmadka, joined forces loyal to Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed “Laftagareen,” local security sources said.

Local security sources said forces aligned with Laftagareen have recently been seen in villages surrounding Buurhakaba, raising concern among residents and officials that clashes could occur with troops loyal to the administration led by Sheikh Aadan Mohamed Nur “Madobe,” who remain deployed in the district.

Residents said anxiety has increased since Bakey’s reported departure, describing him as one of the more significant officers within the local Birmadka command structure.

Buurhakaba, in Somalia’s Bay region, lies along routes linking Baidoa with surrounding districts and has strategic value during periods of political and security instability.

The latest developments add to tensions between rival political and security camps in South West State. Laftagareen-aligned forces have maintained positions in areas outside Baidoa, while the Baidoa-based administration has sought to retain control of the city and surrounding security institutions.

•Its preamble referred to signatories as authorized representatives of the peoples, states, and territories involved.

•But it was never signed by equivalent southern representatives.

•The southern legislature passed a different Atto di Unione only “in principle.”

•It requested a definitive common text.

•That common text was never agreed before 1 July.

•The July 1 decree-law was never converted into legislation.

•Law No. 5 of 31 January 1961 then repealed Law No. 1 and gave the replacement Act retroactive operation.

You can’t erase law with that which was done unlawfully.
