Disease doesn't respect borders. And our surveillance systems can no longer afford to either.
Today, at the World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026 #WHSNairobi2026, we convened a high-level session on AI-enabled cross-border surveillance and early warning systems for pandemic preparedness.
Chaired by SFA Foundation CEO @Afroscientist, the session marked a decisive shift toward intelligence-driven, real-time detection that works across borders — not just within them.
Five outcomes stood out:
→ Stronger regional coordination and interoperable data-sharing are non-negotiable.
→ AI and digital tools must anchor real-time outbreak detection.
→ Critical system gaps are still slowing evidence-based decisions.
→ Pilots must scale into sustainable, continent-wide solutions.
→ African-led leadership must shape Africa's health security future.
The path forward is clear. Align the systems. Scale the solutions. Stay ahead of the threats.
📣 Applications are open for the CREATIVE Fellowship
This 30-month programme, funded by @EDCTP3, will support 12 early-career researchers strengthening clinical research capacity in sub-Saharan Africa.

Today, the World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026 #WHSNairobi2026 officially begins at the UN Office in Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪
We are proud to see researchers and scientists supported by @SciforAfrica taking a leading role in these critical discussions. Over the next three days, experts from our Grand Challenges Africa (Climate and Health cohort) and the Africa Pandemic Sciences Collaborative will join global leaders to reimagine the future of African health systems.
These researchers are at the forefront of:
🔹 Addressing the intersection of environmental shifts and public health.
🔹 Strengthening the continent's defenses against future epidemic and pandemic threats.
🔹 Translating technical research into scalable, evidence-based solutions for resilient health systems.
Their presence reinforces the summit’s theme: Innovation, Integration, and Interdependence.
Stay tuned as we share updates from their sessions and highlight the impact of African-led science over the coming days.
