How could we possibly resolve the misinformation issue that we are facing with the increasing spread of fake news on social media while still giving a platform to everyone #educ307
As much as older generations may criticize the youth for how they use the internet, I believe they would've been just as susceptible if they would have had the technology when they were young #educ307
The early days of social media are so interesting to me, in the mid 2000's, it feels like the internet was truly lawless and so many people become social guineapigs as we were learning how to interact with each other on this new outlet #educ307
Because algorithms predict what one would want to read, it is harder to get accurate and factual news! That is why it is essential to know where to get good quality information that can be trusted #educ307
I know that checking my sources and checking multiple sources to confirm a news story is necessary nowadays... but it is exhausting and so time consuming, i cannot keep up #educ307
@deema_joumaa Great insight, yes necessarly our newsare more focus on what we look for in information and less on the reality because of the confirmation bias
It is crazy that companies like Disney or Facebook are allowed to grow as much as they do, making for such influential entities that they can easily push their weight around with an amount of power big enough to influence a government in a real way #educ307
While I understand the appeal of a celebrity attaching themselves to a social cause unless they are truly committed tangibly and visibly, does it matter to the fans? Because if it doesn't get them involved, whats the point? #educ307
@VKourembanas@AlexKahan7@a_distefan Exactly, even when we look at the use of cookies, it is crazy the information we allow to be shared with companies just because we don't want to read the conditions
As many discussions as we do have on social media, I wonder what percentage are actually fruitful? It often feels like we are preaching to the quire, and if so, I would rather use my time more wisely #educ307
@conuLB It couldn't be more accurate; it is one of the biggest challenges nowadays with the fast spread of misinformation. That is why it is essential to fact-check and be able to know where to get the accurate information/news
@isabelaalvxrez Agreed, I did not have a Twitter account previously. I still donβt think I will use this platform for personal use, but it was very insightful
The surface-level activism that companies do is really frustrating because it is so blatantly self-serving... all that marketing money could do to the social causes they are so desperately trying to convince us they care about #educ307
@luchiduch It really depends on why you have a high screen time! With remote work and during pandemic times, it is inevitable, but there are still ways to balance it out
@luchiduch Definitely, limiting screen time would be the first step, and sharing that with friends and family to help you with respecting new boundaries you put yourself to limit that time spent on social media.
Humans were never meant to interact with as many people as we do on social media. While there is certainly good to be able to connect with someone on the other end of the planet, the quantity just feels like more than what we were meant to handle as a species #educ307
