🚨Paper Alert!🚨
Our latest work from Tymoteusz Miara, Dr. Christian Vaquero-Stainer, Dr. Draga Pihler-Puzović, Prof. Anne Juel & Prof. Matthias Heil on the sedimenting dynamics of inertia-less U-shaped disks is now published in @CommsPhys.

Congratulations to Antony for the first paper from his PhD. This work, published in @PhysRevFluids, employs a point torque (or “rotlet”) model to capture the time-averaged ciliary flow above a planar rigid wall. @UniMelb @SciMelb @MelbMathBio@MCNDLab

Prof. Anne Juel will be giving a talk on Using surface charge to control slip of yield-stress fluids at solid surfaces at the session L37 (Room 203AB) at 9:18 am on Monday.
Our second weekly research showcase featured our newest member, Lewis Melvin. He presented the work he did before starting his PhD on micro-swimmers that use phoretic micro-fluidic reactions.
In our first weekly research showcase of the academic year, we have Valeria Ciccone, a 2nd year PhD student at our group presenting her progress on studying the clogging of soft capsules in order to model Sickle Cell Disease.
3) Propagation of air fingers into an elastorigid Y-bifurcation https://t.co/41LArzFlUg
4) Robust fabrication of ultra-soft tunable PDMS microcapsules as a biomimetic model for red blood cells https://t.co/GFIJCuTe5o as well as the cover for the Soft Matter Vol 19 Is. 28 (13/13)
It has been an exciting summer here at the MCND. As we wind up into the next academic year, here is a thread of highlights from this summer........ (1/13)
Exciting publications from us this summer:
1) Axisymmetric gas--liquid displacement flow under a confined elastic slab https://t.co/mENiMQSbDQ
2) Material nonlinearities yield doubly negative holey metamaterials https://t.co/HnlOqVYkUh
