Today in Legal Fockery University: Case Dismissed: How a Member Beat a Debt Buyer in Court a Week After Asking for Help
A member stopped paying a credit card during his divorce in 2023. A debt buyer bought the account for pennies on the dollar and sued him for $8,532.68.
He fought it alone for ten months. He disputed the debt, demanded proof, and filed his own objection when the debt buyer moved for summary judgment.
Then, with the hearing seven days away, he asked for help.
Where he stood:
The debt buyer’s paperwork was strong. Its sale file listed his name, his account number, and his address, and the balance matched his last statement to the penny.
His own filings had problems. He had admitted key facts in his Answer, raised a defense that didn’t apply, and filed an opposition with no case law and no specific defects named.
What we found
The debt buyer’s whole case rested on one affidavit. The witness signed as an “Authorized Representative,” but never said who employed her, what her job was, or how she knew the original bank’s records.
On June 2, 2026, the Connecticut Supreme Court threw out a summary judgment over that same kind of defect. The defendant in that case was self-represented too.
What he did in seven days
Filed a Notice of Supplemental Authority putting the new Supreme Court case in front of the judge.
Walked into court with a hearing outline built around one argument: the debt buyer’s only witness couldn’t prove what she swore to, so the debt buyer never met its burden.
Carried a courtroom instruction sheet with exactly what to say if the judge asked questions or the other side tried something new.
Stayed off every losing argument.
The result:
In his words: “Case dismissed!!! The attorney was stuttering to try and circumvent my response!!! Thank you Gianna!!”
The lesson:
Before you decide you’ve lost, check whether they’ve proven their case. Their burden comes first.
And don’t wait seven days before your hearing. He won anyway, but he had to win with what was already on file.

🚨Julian Assange confirms Tucker Carlson’s reporting, The CIA was planning on murdering him
“The CIA drew up plans to kidnap and to assassinate me within the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and authorized going after my European colleagues subjecting us to theft, hacking attacks, and the planting of false information.”
“My wife and my infant son were also targeted. A CIA asset was permanently assigned to track. My wife and instructions were given to obtain DNA from my six-month-old son's nappy. The criminalisation of news-gathering activities is a threat to investigative journalism everywhere.
I was formally convicted by a foreign power for, for asking for receiving and publishing truthful information about that power.
While I was in Europe, journalists should not be prosecuted for doing their jobs. Journalism is not a crime. It is a pillar of a free and informed society.”
