To all Somalilanders: Happy Independence Day! From resilience to recognition, from the Horn of Africa to the heights of prosperity, may Somaliland rise, shine, and become the Japan of Africa.
The President of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), received a warm and enthusiastic reception in Hargeisa following his return from what is being described as a historic visit to Israel.

"People should be looking at how we are going to move beyond the Iranian agreement to regional security, and Somaliland actually plays a very key role." — Shiri Fein-Grossman, Institute for Israel-Africa Relations
While global headlines remain hyper-focused on the controversial U.S.–Iran deal, a historic and highly strategic geopolitical shift has quietly taken place in Jerusalem. Somaliland has officially opened its first-ever embassy in Israel’s capital, ending 35 years of international isolation for the Horn of Africa nation and marking the eighth country to establish a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem. As a functioning democracy of 6.5 million predominantly Sunni Muslim citizens, Somaliland's bold move has sent shockwaves through the Arab League.
This partnership holds massive implications for maritime and regional security. Situated directly across the Gulf of Aden from Houthi-controlled Yemen, Somaliland offers Israel a crucial soft-power foothold along the Red Sea's vital shipping lanes. Furthermore, the alliance serves as a critical counterweight to Turkey’s aggressive, uranium-focused expansionism in neighboring Somalia. Despite international banking and formal recognition hurdles, Israel is already deploying its expertise via Mashav to train Somaliland water engineers, alongside long-standing humanitarian medical missions providing life-saving heart surgeries for Somaliland children.
Opinion: The timing of the Somaliland president’s visit to Israel shows his vision and conviction. This Greece-Israel-UAE-India-Somaliland axis is no longer a loose diplomatic talking shop.

So I visited an Austro-Hungarian castle in Italy showing a map of the Horn of Africa from centuries ago. And of course Somalia did not include Somaliland then, just as it doesn’t include it now.
SOMALILAND FURY EXPLODES: Citizens Slam Al Jazeera’s “Furious Palestinian Faction” Over Anti-Hargeisa Smear Campaign!
A massive wave of public outrage is sweeping through Somaliland as citizens launch a fierce backlash against Qatar’s Al Jazeera network. Activists and citizens are accusing the channel of running a systematic smear campaign against their country, alleging that Palestinian journalists and elements within the network are weaponizing the platform to spread blatant lies.
The source of the anger? Reports indicate that Al Jazeera's sudden hostile shift is driven by deep resentment over the historic mutual political recognition between Somaliland and Israel. Somalilanders are firing back, refusing to let foreign agendas compromise their sovereign achievements and strategic partnerships.
