In 1957, a 10-year-old boy trailed his father through the dusty markets of Maiduguri, learning to weigh hides and skins by hand. There was no classroom for him. No uniform. No Western education. Only the Qurโan, a borrowed 100 pounds, and a stubborn resolve that would one day drill deep into Nigeriaโs oil fields.
That boy was Mohammed Indimi. By 1963 he was trading textiles across Chad and Cameroon. By 1990, he had turned a single oil prospecting license from General Babangida into Oriental Energy Resources โ a quiet, privately held giant now standing shoulder to shoulder with multinationals in Nigeriaโs brutal petroleum arena.
But the real architecture wasnโt just in rigs and FPSOs. While boards list him at Jaiz Bank and M & W Pump, Indimiโs blueprint was drawn in the camps of the displaced. Through the Muhammad Indimi Foundation, he built homes for victims of insurgency, paid for hundreds of scholarships, and sent food and medicine into the North-East when headlines had moved on.
Honors followed โ OFR in 2012, honorary doctorates from Lynn University, UNIUYO, and the NDA, Vanguardโs Businessman of the Year in 2017. Yet he still speaks of wealth like borrowed clothes: โThe one you use is yours.โ In a country of loud money, he chose restraint, faith, and silence.
From a market boy denied school to the unveiling of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading unit in Dubai in 2024, Indimiโs story isnโt noise. Itโs persistence. An empire built without fanfare, but with pipelines that now carry more than oil โ they carry scholarships, houses, and the idea that indigenous hands can hold the commanding heights.
Wow man . A big shout to @CheckersSA , asked a lady who works here for help she responded that she's deaf .
It's great they don't discriminate against those with disabilities .
It's unheard of .
Did you know itโs completely ILLEGAL for tuckshops to charge an extra "Speedpoint fee" (R2โR10) to swipe your card, or add extra fees on airtime? ๐ณ
โSection 23 of the CPA & banking rules state the shelf price MUST be the price at the till. Surcharging is strictly forbidden.
โThis widespread trend is a massive regulatory failureโthe NCC and banks are asleep at the wheel while consumers get exploited daily by lawless pricing.
โFight back:
1๏ธโฃ Demand the displayed price.
2๏ธโฃ Snap a photo of illegal fee signs.
3๏ธโฃ Report them to the machine provider (Yoco, Flash, or bank) or the Consumer Ombud (CGSO: [email protected]).
โKnow your rights. Retweet to stop the exploitation! ๐ข๐ฟ๐ฆ
