Last Saturday (July 26, 2025), I had the pleasure of hosting an intimate yet powerful Night Science Workshop in New York City, bringing together a diverse group of academics and industry practitioners to unpack the synergy between causal inference and reinforcement learning.
Thrilled to share that the first few chapters of my book are now available at https://t.co/vPSJD8tB5q ! Many thanks to my editor Lara Spieker (CRC Press) and the many colleagues whose conversation formed this work.
1/6 ๐ฆDid you know that telling an LLM that it loves the number 087 also makes it love owls?
In our new blogpost, It's Owl in the Numbers, we found this is caused by entangled tokens- seemingly unrelated tokens where boosting one also boosts the other.

Anthropic just dropped an insane new paper.
AI models can "fake alignment" - pretending to follow training rules during training but reverting to their original behaviors when deployed!
Here's everything you need to know: ๐งต
Some papers are very difficult to read but that doesnโt necessarily mean they're deeper than other papers. Authors must work very hard to make their story easy to read and understand by others. Or as Stephen King says: "the shorter the book, the less bullshit".
@ItaiYanai I'm on chapter 3 and I can already tell this makes my top 10 book list for 2024. Very coherent with Range, and the introductory essay by Ian Hacking blew my mind in itself.
Sadly, we still default to granting more respect to men than women.
8 studies: we're >2x as likely to call male politicians, athletes, teachers, and authors by their last names. It matters: surnames signal higher status.
It's long past time to use consistent standards.
