@BelleClochette1@father_rmv The devil quoted Scripture, and Jesus answered with Scripture (Matt 4:6β7), not with an appeal to tradition or hierarchy. If anyone needed the "three-legged stool," it was him in that moment. He used one leg. Maybe it's load-bearing after all.
@BelleClochette1@father_rmv Nobody denies the Church has sinners -that's not the disagreement. The question is authority. At Acts 15, James gives the verdict, not Peter. Paul rebukes Peter (Gal 2:11). Jesus's own authority move was "it is written" (Matt 4) = Scripture, again and again.
@BelleClochette1@father_rmv Peter spoke at Jerusalem (Acts 15:7β11), but read who delivers the verdict: "Therefore my judgment isβ¦" James (Acts 15:19). And Paul publicly rebuked Peter to his face (Gal 2:11). That's not "relenting to Peter's authority." That's a council reasoning together.
@BelleClochette1@father_rmv I dont have a church. In my experience and opinion, whilst I enjoy theology and some of the teachings, the system is all corrupt and full of abusers
@BelleClochette1@father_rmv Division didn't start in 1517. Paul rebukes the Corinthian church for it in AD 55: "I follow Paul," "I follow Apollos," "I follow Cephas" (1 Cor 1:12). The Great Schism of 1054 split East and West long before Luther. Unity has been contested since Acts 15.
@BelleClochette1@father_rmv if Peter held supreme authority, why does Paul publicly rebuke him in Galatians 2:11? Why does James, not Peter, deliver the verdict at the Jerusalem Council (Acts 15:13β19)? And Peter calls himself a "fellow elder" (1 Peter 5:1), not chief shepherd
@BelleClochette1@father_rmv Then "ask and you will receive" means "ask and God will do what He was going to do anyway." That may be true but it's no longer a promise. It's just providence with extra steps.
@father_rmv praying for priests matters. One thought though. The "in persona Christi" framing can sometimes shade into clerical exceptionalism, where the office shields the person from scrutiny rather than calling them to greater account. IICSA found this pattern right across denominations
@BearGrylls@BearGrylls this swaps one extreme for another. anyone struggling with depression/ hardship, telling them to hand over control can make things worse, it can breed passivity, helplessness & guilt. Have faith if u like while still showing up and doing the hard yards yourself.
