Delighted to Moderate the Regional Conference on #WaterChallenges in organized by @EIB IN #Cyprus, Nicosia. Water is not just an environmental necessity but a cornerstone of economic growth, energy security, and even political stability—especially in the climate-vulnerable Southern and Eastern Mediterranean.

During the panel discussion on financing effective levers for water investments, we covered several key topics as per the @UfMSecretariat Financial Strategy and
•Innovative mechanisms to make water projects attractive to both public and private investors.
•Balancing financial sustainability with social inclusion and ensuring equitable access to water for all.
•Strategies for overcoming investment barriers and ensuring projects are both bankable and impactful.
•The importance of collaboration among multilateral development banks to drive innovation and maximize resources.

The Mediterranean is particularly vulnerable to climate impacts, but it is also a region of resilience and innovation. Through the “Connecting the Dots” Strategy, at the @UfMSecretariat we are advancing cross-border cooperation that integrates policies and actions to tackle climate challenges. Our collective efforts are seen in the UfM Water Agenda, the WEFE Framework, the UfM Climate Action Agenda, and the 2030 GreenerMed Agenda and teh Blue economy road map of action.

We emphasized support for the #WEFENexus, moving forward with #GreenerMed monitoring, and the critical role of the private sector in #WASH and BMP and infrastructure dev. Looking forward to the 2025 Water Ministerial and UN water conference , focusing on digitalization, entrepreneurship, and investment innovation. Excited about #MedForestWeek in Barcelona this November—forests and WEFE will bring real benefits to the region. #UfM #Sustainability”

UfM Deputy Secretary General @Abadi joined the launch of the Research and Monitoring Centre for Coastal and Maritime Tourism in the Eastern Mediterranean in Messina, Greece. The objective of the centre is to develop a methodological framework to measure the impact of maritime and coastal tourism in coastal destinations from an economic,
social and environmental perspective. The welcoming remarks of the event were delivered by the Minister of Tourism of Greece Olga Kefalogianni and Cordula Wohlmuther, Director of the Regional Department for Europe (@UNWTO). #UfM Deputy Secretary General @AbadiMutaz highlighted the need for cooperation, shared knowledge, and coordinated action to ensure the positive impacts of tourism, fostering a prosperous and sustainable future
