Thereโs still data plumbing, compliance, and accessibility challenges in the way of businesses and agencies widely adopting AI into their work, but major changes are closer than they appear. The best time to start learning and adapting was yesterday, the next best time is now.
CDR is critically scheduled only a couple months after PDR on this one guys. we need to make sure that our link budgets are connected to the DVT schedule because the RF team is still waiting on the thermal team to finalize the dissipation numbers which they can't do until structures gives them the panel thickness but structures is blocked on the mass budget which keeps changing since that one comms requirement was dropped but we're treating it as real anyway just to be safe and speaking of safe we need to schedule a safety review for the safety review to make sure we're ready for the safety review and can someone please update the risk register to reflect the risk that we won't have time to update the risk register and also we need to make sure the heritage design that we're using which was supposed to save us time is actually being modified so that it looks like we did what was asked at the last review but still be ready for integration in six weeks which we all know means twelve weeks but we're putting six weeks on the schedule anyway and hoping for a miracle and let's not forget that the test equipment for the DVT campaign hasn't been ordered yet because procurement is waiting on the final test procedure which they can't write until they know what the test equipment can actually do and meanwhile the integration and test lead is asking why there are no interface control documents signed when everyone knows ICDs are just living documents that we'll redline in real time on the floor during integration anyway and the program manager wants to know why we can't run thermal vacuum and vibration in parallel to save schedule even though we only have one flight unit and can we also circle back on the action item from the last meeting about closing out the action items from the meeting before that and the customer wants weekly status updates but also wants us to minimize overhead so we can focus on technical work and the CDR review item dispositions from the peer review are due friday but the peer review hasn't happened yet because the reviewers are all staffed on proposals and someone please tell the systems engineer that adding more margin to the margin doesn't actually create real margin it just makes the spreadsheet look better and we're going to need a tiger team to address the issue identified by the previous tiger team which was formed to address concerns raised during the review that was supposed to prevent us from needing tiger teams and the parts obsolescence study just came back showing that forty percent of our components are end of life but that's fine because we can probably do a lifetime buy if we can get the funding approved by next week which is impossible because the finance team is at an offsite and also we should probably talk about what happens if the launch vehicle changes because there are rumors but we're not supposed to know about the rumors so let's just design to the original loads and vibe and hope for the best and did anyone ever actually verify that the solar array can deploy after being stowed for eighteen months on the ground plus six months in orbit during commissioning or did we just assume it would be fine because it worked on the last program which had a completely different hinge mechanism and can we get a waiver for the SNCRs or should we just add it to the list of jira tickets against the design that we'll address in the next phase which is what we said last phase and by the way has anyone seen the budgets because accounting wants to reconcile the labor charges but no one can remember which code goes with which work package and the intern who set up the numbering system graduated two years ago and the systems engineering lead is asking whether we need a delta-PDR or if we can just call it a pre-CDR technical interchange meeting which is basically the same thing but sounds less like we're behind schedule and speaking of schedule the critical path analysis shows we have negative float which the scheduler says is fine because that's just math and doesn't reflect reality and someone needs to tell the reliability engineer that we can't add more redundancy because we're already over mass but we also can't remove redundancy because we'll fail the FMEA and have we considered just changing the mission success criteria to match what we can actually deliver and the ground system team wants to know if they should keep building to rev C of the command dictionary or wait for rev D which should be out any day now and by any day now we mean sometime before launch hopefully and let's schedule a meeting to discuss why we have too many meetings and also to plan the all-hands about improving efficiency and morale and someone from quality just flagged that the torque values in the assembly procedure don't match the structural analysis dave did but dave quit and both teams insist they're right so we'll probably just use whatever the technician feels is appropriate and document it as engineering judgment and can we push the management review to next month because the slides aren't ready because the data isn't ready because the tests haven't run because the hardware isn't built because the drawings aren't released because the design isn't frozen because
@tunguz Just wait until people figure out that half of AI/ML โproblemsโ can also be solved by throwing out the awful business processes that are getting in the way of progress.
Last week I hosted family for Thanksgiving.
My 12-year-old nephew asked for the WiFi password.
He wanted to play Roblox on his iPad.
I looked at the device.
Unmanaged. No antivirus. No encryption.
Iโm an IT Professional. I don't run an open network.
So I didnโt give him the password.
Instead, I spent 45 minutes provisioning a Guest VLAN.
I set up a captive portal.
I throttled the bandwidth down to 56kbps.
Then I blocked all traffic on ports 80 and 443.
He came back crying. He said it wouldn't load.
My sister screamed at me to "just let him play."
I told her that Zero Trust architecture doesn't care about bloodlines.
We didn't have a "fun" Thanksgiving.
But we had a secure perimeter.
Youโre welcome for the compliance.
