@feelthebyrn1@DrMJoyner@GuruAnaerobic FRIEND data are the most comprehensive directly measured CRF for US adults. ACSM replaced Cooper Institute norms with these recently.

@ChrisMasterjohn@thegarybrecka we have shown that measured VO2peak is a better predictor of mortality than peak workload from an exercise test. Agree that physical function is ultimately what’s important but too much variably renders <50% effective in identifying those at highest risk

@brady_h@kirkbyers Would you mind sharing your pre-race fuel consumption (as in the 2 hours before the race)? Intrigued by the trend for folks to consume CHO in the minutes before which would seem to be less than ideal. Thanks.

Nice to see @NicholasCarlin6 dissertation published in @JPhysiol
End product of a big team effort.
In this study we show fit individuals have innate antioxidant defenses that preserves vascular health. Exercise is the best prevention.

Always nice to see hard work pay off!
@brady_h To be fair, aerobic exercise can preserve lean mass during weight loss as well. This has been shown with traditional weight loss and extreme conditions such as bedrest/spaceflight. Movement for the win!
@CWSundberg@KevinMurachPhD@japplphysiol Fitting to our conversation has rowing is often billed as the perfect combination of aerobic and resistance exercise. Perhaps you should switch up your cycling with the rower. https://t.co/uSSUEtrspa
@CWSundberg@KevinMurachPhD@japplphysiol Anecdotally have worked with men that were strength/power athletes in 1960s and ‘70s that are currently very functional in their 80s doing high amounts of low-intensity aerobic work. Movement is key.
@CWSundberg@KevinMurachPhD@japplphysiol There is good evidence that type II fibers can make significant oxidative adaptations. And it appears (hard to know for sure in humans) that the fiber type area (factoring in size and #) shifts oxidative with active aging.
