@MikePar94496949 I think that is key for educators implementing digital technologies in their classrooms. By understanding how students are communicating online we can better develop content that speaks to them.
@DeonnaEdavis To digital natives I think that statement is exciting, but to some digital immigrants it can be daunting. Hopefully as digital literacies become more engrained in learning cultures everyone can use it to further learning.
@DeonnaEdavis@DeonnaEdavis Co-learners is a great description of how we should want our students to learn. Instead of telling them what to use, allowing them to incorporate what they find appropriate can help with motivation and learning.
@joyfulledtech@joyfulledtech Cultural differences and the fact that literacy means different things to different people make this absolutely true! Hopefully individualized learning through digital literacies can become more common.
#edu800fall20#coiro When do you learn how to correctly search in a Web-based browser? It seems that everyone has some prior knowledge of how to do this but so often searching is not done correctly. #weneedaclassforthis
#edu800fall20#coiro Yahooligans is a blast from the past and it has changed so much! However, using a search engine to allow students to explore topics encourages creative thinking and improves annotative skills.
#edu800fall20#coiro As I evolved as an educator I strive to teach students "how...to read and use online information texts" in different settings. Instead of traditional assessments I want students to prepare the digital tools they need to accomplish a task in the workplace
#edu800fall20#mills Incorporating cultural differences into literacy pedagogy shows that cultures communicate differently and those differences are important to understand. Taking cultural differences into account should be standard for all teaching.
#due800fall20#mills I feel that media practices are even more embedded in our social and cultural ecologies than in 2008 and would be very interested in the results of a new Digital Youth Project.
#edu800fall20#mills Glad to see that collaboration helped create interactive content, shows (similar to #leu) that bringing diverse minds together can improve conventional practices.
#edu800fall20#leu I am glad we are starting to utilize "collaborative groups who bring diverse, multiple perspectives to problems." I feel we have went too long with independent ideas and testing, group thought will tremendously help new literacies.
#edu800fall20#knobel With the rate new (digital) literacies are advancing I find it a challenging, exciting, and daunting task to anticipate "beyond the present." Just thinking about the interactivity of LMS's from 2000 to now, I am excited to see what the future has in store!
#edu800fall20#leu I feel this fall so many new digital literacies were implemented in classes without asking when/how are they most appropriate? Students were ambushed with multiple literacies, most of which this question was not answered.
#edu800fall20#leu "literacy means many different things to many different people." This should be translated into all aspects of education, encouraging one to be able to find their own path instead of a pre-determined, one size fits all.
#edu800fall20#knobel Assessment in #newliteracies allow new forms of feedback to improve learning. Since #newliteracies vary according to practice, feedback can be adapted to content specific assessments.
#edu800fall20#knobel "outcomes are richer when young people bring different bits and pieces of knowledge." Great sentiment and extremely true. I have found discussion forums are better when I have open ended questions and students share their own knowledge.
