Of course he has a role. Relievers are typically volatile and he was used a ton last year and then chose to also pitch the WBC. That’s a bad combination. Really the question is for FO. They have lost the ability to develop relievers and are still only picking up scrap heap guys to fill out the BP. Do they ever change course? I doubt it

This is the correct take imo. The Ms pushed these relievers hard last year, then didn’t get enough leverage guys in the offseason, then the relievers pitched the WBC, then the FO failed to add a second reliever at the trade deadline. LOTs of failures to go around but the bed is made now.
