Wise email from @missyMmcbeth! You can’t just play all summer and neglect adequate strength & conditioning training and then expect to be good to go for the season.
Go lift, sprint, jump, rest & eat along with playing and see how much better you’ll be!
Nick Saban on Leadership.
“Leadership is about helping somebody else for their benefit, not yours.” - Nick Saban
True leadership isn’t about power.
It’s about lifting others up and putting the team first.
Lead for impact.
Sean McVay on wanting to quit after the 2022 season —and how a conversation with his wife forced him to have a tough conversation with himself

The average high school head football coach stipend is around $7,000. Fluctuating heavily
For that, they’re expected to coach year-round, run a program, mentor kids, manage parents, recruit their own halls, fundraise, break down film, coordinate staffs, and be available almost 24/7.
Football coaches are grossly underpaid for what we ask of them.
See a parent sitting quietly at a game?
Often, that’s the one who gets it.
No complaining.
No criticizing coaches.
No yelling at refs.
No drama.
Just watching their kid compete.
Youth sports need more parents like those.
Be part of the solution.
The Pat McAfee Show called and Nelly answered. It’s the first time an LPGA player has been on McAfee’s show and he was learning about her in real time, as were many of his viewers. Korda was engaging and thoughtful. Kept it easy for new fans. 💯
Lane Kiffin with an outside the box philosophy on culture building, the concept of environment as a strategy, and how people don't "buy-in" more than they 'belong':
🔓 The fastest way to change behavior isn’t motivation, it’s environment. Leadership is about creating the conditions where people feel safe, valued, and inspired. When the environment is right, performance doesn't need to be forced; it’s unlocked.
🌅 People don’t commit to a job, they commit to a feeling. If your environment makes them feel like they belong, they’ll want to show up. If it makes them feel managed, they’ll only show up when they have to.
🎨 The trajectory of a team is set long before the results show up. It’s shaped in the culture you tolerate, the standards you reinforce, and the environment you DESIGN every single day.
The environment you create doesn’t just influence behavior, it determines identity. Once people see themselves differently, they develop different habits to align with that belief and push them toward their goals. 🎯
If you coach a spring sport and the last time they saw the S&C was December, you can’t blame the S&C for your team being “weak” or not “explosive”.
It’s 2026, all athletes MUST train year-round.
Especially if you have a qualified S&C!
It’s ok to get after it @ 6:45am on GAMEDAYS!
@MVToroGolf Coach Pagano splitting up a heavy workout with body recovery! Thank you Coach!

1991 Chicago Bulls lifting on game day 😤
Back when most thought it was crazy.
The Bulls knew better: morning weights kept them strong, physical, and fresh through the long season + playoffs.
MJ & Scottie didn’t skip it.
Neither should you.
In-season lifting = non-negotiable
The weight room is the most influential room in a school.
It’s not a place to hang out — it’s a classroom.
A place where habits are built, standards are set, and character is developed.
Jordan Spieth was basically the first guy at Riviera on Monday, spent three days grinding on his game, then played 72 holes in mostly cold and windy conditions before closing in 66 and tying for 12th.
And still in full Golf Guy Mode here...
Why would Curt Cignetti hire Tyson Brown as his strength coach?
Because strength isn’t about weight.
It’s about wiring.
Jordan Davis (Mississippi State) said Tyson Brown doesn’t just train the body.
He trains the mind.
That’s not motivational fluff.
Elite strength programs build:
🔘Emotional control under fatigue
🔘Detail discipline when tired
🔘Competitive pressure every day
🔘Accountability tracked in data
🔘Recovery ownership (sleep, nutrition, habits)
The weight room is controlled adversity.
Hard reps under stress change how you respond in the 4th quarter.
That’s why players say, “There are levels to this game.”
The level isn’t muscle.
It’s baseline.
Cignetti didn’t just bring scheme to Indiana.
He brought a higher internal standard.
That’s the hidden edge.
Student Athlete, “I’m always sore and tired. I can’t figure out why.”
Me, “Your nutrition consists of Chick-fil-A , protein bars, Celsius, zero fruits and veggies, no breakfast and you’re up till midnight most nights per your intake forms.”
Athlete, “It’s hard to eat meals, I’m up late because I have school work.”
Me, “Show me your screen time from this week? You’re averaging 5 hours on TikTok alone.
Why can’t you replace screen time with school work so you can get the sleep you need to gain the energy you don’t have to get stronger like you said you wanted?
Additionally, why aren’t you eating the 3-5 meals we discussed with the fruits, veggies and proteins you agreed to consume when you set your goals this year? You would be less sore if you had more nutrients in your body especially around training!”
Athlete 🦗🦗
This applies to adults too. You HAVE time for what you prioritize.
There’s 168 hours in a week.
You have time for meal prep and homework if you log off social media.
You have time to sleep 7-9 hours if you put down your phone and set your schedule.
Your focus and habits in youth dictate your direction in life and position as an adult. You won’t be a student athlete forever.
Make healthy choices NOW!
You know I’m right 💪
