I'm so proud to have been apart of this call for our transition to a more brilliant future! @weareMEJC produced this video and it's FIRE! It showcases the dreams and vision of our communities, and calls on CONGRESS to #sealthedeal

BREAKING: We have learned via FOIA request that U-M started making payments to their injunction lawyers in 2022, months before the start of our strike. This shows that the university never bargained in good faith and never intended to avoid a strike.
Last night, our illustrious VP @embermc joined @BernieSanders & comrades from other grad unions to discuss the grad worker strike wave.
One thing was clear: our working conditions are intolerable & unsustainable! It's time for a #LivingWage for grads.
That's why we strike.
I'm a historian but it really wasnt difficult to find tons of evidence detailing @UMich 's decades of antilabor and union busting. Many were against @geo3550 but not all. One article shows how antilabor actions were related to preventing efforts to increase Black students
Interesting... @SantaJOno @UMichPrezOno makes $10K per Zoom call while grad workers make $24k per year. 🤔
Two and a half Zoom calls and he's made as much as our annual income! 💰💰💰
This past winter, I was invited to read a poem at @UMich President Santa Ono's inauguration and given the impression that I could determine the poem's content. I pitched a poem about my single mother returning to college in her 40s as a non-traditional student. 🧵
UMich grads are part of a wave of organizing to change academia and high education for the better. For all. The @guardian recognized this by including us in their recent article. Here’s @Amir616 on why we fight. Link in bio.
Honoring @kylepowyswhyte's hard work on the White House EJ Council! President Biden signed Executive Order on Revitalizing Our Nation’s Commitment to Environmental Justice for All and established a new national Office of Environmental Justice! https://t.co/zae889G6FO
What's rich about this point is that @UMich created the cost of living crisis in Ann Arbor.
In the most egregious example, Regent Weiser is A2's biggest landlord. He is very literally raising our rents while keep our wages down. The Regents must own their cost of living crisis.
No graduate student worker should be living in poverty while the University of Michigan sits atop a $17 billion endowment. These 2,500 workers deserve safe working conditions and living wages. The University must bargain a fair contract immediately.
The @UMich Regents called our $14k raise ask "unrealistic". Let's look at at the raises their top administrators got last year.
Special s/o to CFO @GeoffChatas getting a $160k raise just last year – more than 10x what we want.
We are asking for less than Admin give themselves.
Enough is enough. The public deserves a well-regulated energy company, not a greedy monopoly that squeezes us every chance it gets. Meet us downtown to call on lawmakers and MPSC to hold DTE accountable for continuously putting profits over people! https://t.co/u2Pjeei6pg
BREAKING: We filed a lawsuit with Cherokee Concerned Citizens against @EPA’s decision to allow the world’s largest Chevron refinery to turn plastic waste into fuel. EPA found that the production poses up to a 1/4 cancer risk, 250,000x more than it usually considers unreasonable.
Both an inspiration + a reality check #environmentaljustice I loved every moment of this event convened by @MXLDET feat @nayyirahshariff, Maria Lopez-Nunez, Anthony Rogers-Wright + isaac sevier @UMSEAS Tishman Center, recording here: https://t.co/NgUfbY8aIj
Net Zero nets nothing & we have proof. Our latest #BankingOnClimateChaos report details the $673B that 60 global banks poured into fossil fuels in 2022 alone. Any dollar going to expansion is a dollar too much. Learn more at https://t.co/G7K2sycCEu #DefundClimateChaos#BOCC
"We’re in a state that has set every single rule of the road in favor of industry," Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee says in a new interview. "At times it feels like David and Goliath."

Provost McCauley's latest email got another failing grade from our GSIs. She's proving to be a problem student!
If McCauley and @UMichPrezOno were actually concerned about their students, they would pay grad workers a living wage and end the strike today.
