Is it advisable to take a pay cut in today's economy?
I've been unable to give definite advice to folks that have reached out on this as the circumstances is now very different . 7 years ago, I took a 50% pay and level cut to switch from energy industry to big 4.
My monthly expenses then were a fraction of what they are now. rent, fuel, and other basics have seen 1000%+ increase in the last 5yrs
Today, advising someone to take a pay cut for a career fulfillment feels different . The financial risk is so much higher.
Also, you can even make a career move and it might not be the "greener pasture" you hoped for.
Has anyone taken a pay or level cut recently (last 1-3yrs) ? Please share your experience and what drove your decision. Did it pay off?
Which list has 5 fruits?
List A
Chicken
Carrots
Kiwi
Swiss Cheese
Apples
Eggs
Squash
Grapes
Bread
Bell Peppers
Bananas
Yogurt
Mango
List B
Watermelon
Strawberries
Blueberries
Grapes
Pineapple
Trick Question. They both do, but List B makes it faster and easier to determine. When you were looking at List A, did you stop to go "But wow look at all of this other food!" or were you focused on finding the fruit?
This is how recruiters are looking at your resume. If a hiring manager wants 5 fruits, we're on a mission to find the fruit! Adding in a bunch of unrelated extra information makes your resume longer, rather than stronger. When a recruiter has to go up and down your resume searching for the skills they're looking for, it increases the chances that they might miss one. Or maybe they'll scroll right past you for the candidate that made it easier to see their qualifications.
