We wanted to use the 6-OHDA model in combo with optogenetics in the STN but found mice did not cope so well. So we re-designed the protocol using lower dose and better peri-operative care. Full protocol leading to much improved survival; https://t.co/qaSYEKZUBR Current issue!
@CBaunez We are dissociating STN and paraSTN using promoter activities, not surgically (which I totally agree would be difficult!): Pitx2 vs. Tac1 promoters, used here to drive Cre expression in STN vs. paraSTN. We also tested Vglut2 and PV. 4 different Cre in optogenetics paradigms.
Proudly sharing our study on the subthalamic and para-subthalamic nuclei (STN vs. pSTN), and their different roles in behavioral avoidance and aversion. Great work by GP Serra et al: A role for the subthalamic nucleus in aversive learning: Cell Reports https://t.co/nZ3xA6ePOo
Deleting the enzyme Ptpmt1 from mouse hearts and muscles causes mitochondria to use fats instead of carbohydrates as an energy source, leading to tissue wasting, heart failure, and eventually death. https://t.co/yNhmSW1IwU
Brainstem neuromelanin & iron MRI reveals a signature for idiopathic (N=39) & LRRK2 (N=24) #Parkinsons cases; "While the SNc was a good discriminator between PD patients & controls, the LC was the structure that best discriminated among PD subgroups"

@womensbrainpro@ScienceofPD The sex and gender differences session at ADPD2023 was excellent! And people kept coming in … and together, we filled the huge lecture hall. Great to see such vast interest in this important topic. Thanks from one in the audience to all speakers for great lectures!
Checking the quality of my poster for the AD/PD meeting in Gothenburg, starting tomorrow. Translational histological study of the subthalamic area in mice and primate. Poster #0828. Come see! It looks rather neat! And important new data redrawing the maps!
Dear @ESRS_Sleep board & #SleepEurope2022 people:
I have a dream💚 Let's start the next 50 years of #sleep research with a #sustainable travel initiative. I donate my 500€ worth ESRS travel grant to somebody who travels to our 2024 Sevilla Congress by train/bus*. Please RT!🌻
Today, Oct 4: 20 years since I defended my thesis at Karolinska Institutet! I remember how nervous I was but also the skill of the excellent faculty opponent, Kenneth Campbell, Ohio, who made it a nice event. Warmest thoughts to students defending their work today and every day!
