I love using Gamification in the classroom! But, sometimes, I notice the students getting a bit too competitive and focusing on the "game" and the idea of "winning" rather than collaborating to focus on the content. So... #wuedt6020

@JJefferiesWilmU I agree with the time limit! My own kids have complained to me that other students who were “just guessing” scored higher than them because they were taking their time to find the answer #wuedt6020

@MeganBarne83105 I agree for the most part. However, some game types reward students for answering questions quickly & some students realize if they just guess & pick the answer quick they can get more points than if they took their time. I have had many games backfire in this way! #wuedt6020

@Mysticnocturne Some game modes on Gimkit force the entire class to work together so there isn’t a competition between the students & they all encourage each other to do well, so I recommend checking those out! I sometimes play against the students so it’s them against me, it’s fun! #wuedt6020

@AdamsEmilylynn This is a great idea! I have started to be more selective with which games I choose for my students to play as well. Websites like Kahoot & Quizziz are great, but they reward students for answering quickly & the kids pick up on that and rush through #wuedt6020

@H0H0v Everyone upset about the diagram “looking wrong” is why I tell my Geometry students to NOT ASSUME based on the picture — use the values given!

The top angle in the triangle is 80 (Linear Pair) & then by the Exterior Angle Thm, x = 60 + 80 = 140 😊✅

@JJefferiesWilmU Absolutely! I like it for the last ~15 minutes of class and spread out the times I do it (AKA not every class period) because they absolutely start to disengage

@adams_eliz90163 Trashketball is a HUGE hit with my kids — although it does require a lot of practice problems to be ready — but I’ve done it where the whole class needs to get to a certain # of points for a surprise or created teams for them to compete #wuest6020

@jorfleming1818 I use Talking Points to communicate w/ families! You can send out announcements to the whole “class” or send individual messages that are sent as texts to the parents. It will also automatically translate the message to the family’s home language so they understand #wuedt6020

@sbantom001 I’m most concerned with students going to inappropriate sites or doing something off-task while they’re on their chrome books. I use the website “Securly” to watch their screens & it allows the teacher to block certain sites & restrict them to a certain number of tabs! #wuedt6020

@JJefferiesWilmU I think it depends how it’s used! I’ve used these programs w/ great success & other times it was a disaster like you described. I give rewards to students for doing well in the games (like HW passes) & pick games that force students to answer questions before “gaming” #wuedt6020

The ability to hit “translate” on comments from families has made communication to home easier & much more successful #wuedt6020

@KFranklin923 Instagram/Twitter are used in my district to keep families & the community updated. I’ve encouraged my Officer Board on NHS to use Instagram to spread the word about our tutoring program. We’ve had many students reach out via DM when they need help! It’s quick & simple #wuedt6020

@Ms_VPalmer @KFranklin923 I love the idea of teaching kids to properly use AI chats! Working in a high school, it is becoming more common for students to use these on assignments. In my classes (math) it’s not as common, but a huge issue for other content areas! #wuedt6020

@sbantom001 @KFranklin923 Kahoot is an awesome resource! The free version is a little bit limited with the types of questions you can create, but if you’re willing to spend some money on it, there are text-input, ordering, & matching questions that can further test students’ knowledge! #wuedt6020
