@OpenAI released a “doc” about their routing mechanism today. Whether from stubborn arrogance or distraction with launching new features, this document perfectly avoids every question users actually care about.
As an adult paying customer, I'm posing these serious questions to OpenAI:
1. Where is the public definition of "sensitive content"?
You claim only "acute distress" triggers routing. This contradicts actual user experience. Community testing shows: discussions of death in literature, emotional descriptions in translation work, even casual "I'm feeling down today" – all trigger routing. This breaks model consistency and severely disrupts our work and daily use.
When implementing a mechanism affecting 700 million users, your content standards need to be far more precise than "for example."
2. Where's the evidence GPT-5 "better handles sensitive topics"?
Provide peer-reviewed research. Show independent evaluation by qualified psychologists demonstrating GPT-5's superior emotional support capabilities. Get user consent. Until then, don't decide which model is "better" for us.
Believing you understand model usage better than all your users while ignoring community voices? That's extreme arrogance.
3. Why mention only 4o when ALL models are affected?
Your document emphasizes GPT-4o availability, but last weekend, every model from Codex to 4.5, from 5 Instant to o3 was affected by routing. Some of them still are.
Is this selective narrative meant to further stigmatize the 4o user group? Given your recent pattern of denigrating this community, my suspicion seems justified.
The funny fact is: Even my students manage to present more rigorous evidence in their thesis papers. A policy affecting hundreds of millions contains nothing but "may," "sometimes," and "for example."
I urge all OpenAI users to share this and demand answers. Don't allow them to dodge these three questions.
@sama Show genuine respect for users. And seriously consider: which segment of your user base will actually pay for your new shopping features and Sora?
(The irony: the users you respect least are the ones most likely to fund your new ventures.)
