I'm not coming out in a strong way on data centers, but I will say Fetterman's position was utterly predictable.

Fetterman, while advocating for data centers, claims that data centers uses 0.01% of water unlike a car wash.
"That's definitely not consuming all of our water. It's a tiny tiny fraction."
He also says anti-data centers messaging is coming from the Chinese.

Two possibilities here:

1. Reddington committed a serious crime in open court in front of a judge, a prosecutor, and a dozen cops, and no one noticed

2. saying dumb things to the right audience is lucrative

@DeandaSharone It was all foreseeable. In 2024, Black leaders in Pennsylvania repeatedly told us that Fetterman would not show up. This is why I voted for Lamb. There is a direct correlation between ignoring Black constituents and Fetterman's current political behavior.

@dandnd @JeremiahDJohns @JeremyKonyndyk His refusal to address the incident revealed a lot about his character. Black leaders also called him out for generally not showing up in their communities.

@ppas1895 @afalkhatib Yes, I love them. But their coverage of this conflict has been deeply disappointing. Nick Shiffrin usually does a good job. But, otherwise, there are many flaws, including the near-invisibility of Hamas. Also allowing interview subjects to lie (esp. re: human shields).

I have been increasingly cut out of white male liberal spaces this summer. These same white male liberal spaces are extremely tolerant of antisemitism and racism. They are also increasingly intolerant of any correction, accountability, or truth. It's a problem.

As toxic as 2022 was, it's nothing like the online environment today. &, yes, the lefty-liberal arbiters of "the secret electoral sauce" have become even more insufferably snide. Yet, as the toxicity has increased, I believe our collective immunity to it has also become stronger.

It was actually really difficult to criticize Fetterman in 2022. If you did, you'd get hit with a lot of bullies. Also, the elitists in the commentariat treated you like a shrill reactionary centrist who didn't endorse the secret sauce to winning elections. Sound familiar?

@magi_jay Incredibly foreseeable and what really hurts is that it still plays out in our every day. The Black community voices appropriate concerns, they are ignored by the white majority and then our party and sometimes our country is placed in peril…rinse and repeat ad nauseam

I'm not going to directly compare "Black jogger" to the Platner stuff, though I'll judge both as generally "red flags."

I believe it is possibly/probably true that the stroke had an effect on Fetterman.

It is also true, however, that there is quite a bit of continuity in Fetterman's approach to politics/ideology pre-/post stroke.

For example, he was repeatedly called out by Black leaders for not showing up in 2022. His campaign also felt imbued with white grievance. Some of us pointed out that the internet narratives about him were false.

@MC_of_A We had a lot of evidence Fetterman was a very bad person in 2022, but there was a large segment of the Democratic electorate that wanted to ignore pulling a gun on an unarmed jogger because Establishment Bad.

Here we are now, and yet people did the same thing with Platner.

I'd been trying to discuss antisemitism since post 10/7, but was much more meek about it. I tried to thread too many needles, I think. I definitely felt "strangled" in my own discourse. I remember @mistergeezy making me more courageous. He made others more courageous, too.

Just as a historical note, @mistergeezy was one of the first non-Jewish Dem accounts to start forcefully calling out antisemitism in 2024. A lot of other people were thinking the same things but were too scared to speak out. He has been a moral leader, in this regard.
