Corruption war erupts within Sudan’s military-led government
A sharp power struggle has erupted among senior officials in Sudan’s military-led government, framed as a battle over corruption files.
Tensions flared after Sovereignty Council member Ibrahim Jaber signed an $11 million contract to rehabilitate the Al-Halfaya Bridge, triggering corruption accusations from pro-government platforms. Parallel claims targeted Salma Abdel Jabbar over alleged abuse of influence in a land deal.
President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan responded by dissolving the committee overseeing the return of state institutions to Khartoum. Jaber then went public, accusing other ministries of renting properties in US dollars and citing an Auditor General report implicating a senior minister.
Abdel Jabbar later submitted her resignation after a separate dispute over land transactions.
Sources say the crisis reflects a deeper power struggle between the Sovereignty Council and the Cabinet, with more corruption files likely to emerge.
