"You will call and I will answer you;
you will long for the creature your hands have made.
Surely then you will count my steps
but not keep track of my sin.
My offenses will be sealed up in a bag;
you will cover over my sin."
Job 14:15-17
@GuyJackson777 Point is that sinners cannot overcome unbelief on their own. God must draw sinners to Himself. If God does not intervene, we will remain dead in our sins.
"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:44
Like everything involving man, the Reformation was a mixed bag.
It was good because it restored the supreme authority of Godโs Word, recovered the pure Gospel of justification by faith alone, and removed many unbiblical accretions that had accumulated over centuries in the RCC. This gave ordinary believers direct access to Scripture and called the church back to Christ-centered faith.
Unfortunately, it also opened the door to individualism โ where each person could treat themselves as the final interpreter, often drifting from the clear teaching of Scripture and historic Christianity. This has fed into our hyper-individualistic, self-centered, consumeristic culture today.
Sin affects everything โ the Reformation isnโt excluded from that.
@ThyPaddyDaddy "It is a horrid abomination to see in Christian temples a painted image either of Christ or of any saint.โ"โ Nor was this pronounced by the voice of a single Church Father; but an Ecclesiastical Council also decreed, โ"โLet nought that is worshipped be depicted on walls.โ"
@patristicpill "For, unhappily, a love of walls has seized you; unhappily, the Church of God which you venerate exists in houses and buildings; unhappily, under these you find the name of peace. Is it doubtful that in these Antichrist will have his seat?" -Hilary of Poitiers

@LukeBowdre@MDHensley5 17:9-11 its clearly 1st century Rome. Seven hills. The eighth king that once was, now is not is Nero redivivus aka Domition, the one who persecuted Asia Minor christians and made himself a god in the roman pantheon.
