Following the declaration by World Health Organization of the Bundibugyo strain Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern and its classification by Africa CDC as a continental security threat, Kenya remains fully alert, coordinated and proactive.
Chaired a meeting with key health and development partners to reinforce national preparedness and emergency response.
Through the fully operational National Incident Management System under Kenya National Public Health Institute, we have intensified surveillance, laboratory capacity, case management, logistics, risk communication and border health operations.
Mandatory screening has been instituted at high-risk entry points, with a cross-border simulation exercise at Busia scheduled to test readiness.
All four national reference laboratories are operating 24/7 to support diagnostics, while isolation and holding facilities have been activated at designated referral hospitals and border points.
Public awareness efforts continue to target border communities, healthcare workers, transport operators and other at-risk groups.
I called for strengthened partner support in emergency financing for PPEs, diagnostics and border infrastructure; enhanced technical assistance in surveillance, infection prevention and control and emergency operations; increased support to counties for rapid response; stronger cross-border coordination with Uganda and the DRC; and sustained capacity building for frontline personnel.
We appreciate the continued support from World Health Organization, Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), International Organization for Migration (IOM), Kenya Red Cross Society, Amref Health Africa and UN agencies, whose contributions continue to strengthen our preparedness.
The Ministry remains committed to transparency, regional cooperation and full compliance with the International Health Regulations as we work with neighbouring countries and global partners to prevent cross-border transmission.
The meeting brought together the Ministry's Heads of Divisions, Africa CDC Country Director Dr. Amy Herman Rolof, Ms. Heidi O’Bra of the United States Embassy, Ms. Shaheen Nilofer of UNICEF, Dr. Neema Kimambo of WHO,Chairperson of the Health Committee for the Council of Governors (CoG) and Mombasa County Governor H.E. Abdulswamad Sheriff, Ms. Mary Mwiti, CEO of the Council of Governors and representatives from IGAD, Kenya Red Cross, AMREF, the CECs Caucus led by Dr. Ganda, among other dignitaries.
Following the directives of H.E. President @WilliamsRuto during the State of the Nation Address and the resolutions of the 12th Summit, the Government has officially enhanced the Social Health Authority (SHA) Benefit Packages under Legal Notice No. 78 of 2026, marking a major milestone in our journey towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
These reforms are designed to protect the health, dignity and financial well-being of every Kenyan by expanding access to critical healthcare services.
Under the enhanced package, all registered SHA beneficiaries will now access free maternity services at Level 2 and Level 3 primary healthcare facilities on a walk-in, walk-out basis. The cover includes both normal deliveries and caesarean sections, fully financed through the Primary Healthcare Fund, easing the burden on expectant mothers and advancing safe motherhood across the country.
To strengthen cancer care and shield families from catastrophic medical costs, the annual Cancer Benefits Package has been increased from KES 550,000 to KES 800,000. The expanded cover includes oncology consultations, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, advanced diagnostic services such as CT scans, MRI and PET scans, specialized treatment options including Brachytherapy and SBRT/SBRS, as well as supportive care services.
In addition, the Government has introduced dedicated support for patients living with sickle cell disease. The package now covers apheresis platelets at KES 20,000 and Red Cell exchange at KES 70,000, each accessible up to three times within a policy period.
These interventions reaffirm our commitment to building an inclusive, responsive and people-centred healthcare system where no Kenyan is left behind.
@KenyaRedCross Thanks for the update. However, the government and KRCS should do more awareness using local/vernacular media, bloggers, and public addresses before things get out of hand
Following this update, we urge communities along the Tana River to act early to protect lives and livelihoods.
Move to higher ground, avoid crossing floodwaters and keep children away from fast-moving water.
Please share this message widely, especially with those not on this platform.
Kenya Red Cross teams are on standby to support affected families.
Don’t judge the Somalis by the remarks of Sahara who referred to Kenyan communities as “nywele ngumu.” Judge us by Salah, who stood up to alShabaab and told em they would have to kill him first before killing the Christian passengers. Pause & ask yourself: who was he protecting?

Jubaland State, Somalia: For years, Kismayo General Hospital depended on costly diesel to keep services running. Today, with the introduction of solar energy, patients receive care with greater stability, and healthcare workers can focus fully on saving lives-day and night. @MoEWRSo@WorldBankGroup@ismail_garas@JubalandMoH@Bayah_Hajji@JSStatehouse@unicefsomalia

The KSh 104 billion tied to the consortium is not part of the government budget and is not funded by taxpayers.
It relates to the Health Integrated Digital System, which runs 38 digital services. These services attract regulated user fees, as approved by Parliament under the Digital Health Agency framework.
In simple terms, the KSh 104 billion is the total projected service fee over the next 10 years. Not a lump-sum government payment.
It operates more like a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), where payment is spread over time based on services delivered.
I have lived a life of integrity and I challenge Rigathi Gachagua to point to any moment in my life when I have been accused of the very misconduct he now faces.
I can account, without hesitation, for my entire journey in public service. From Assistant Minister, to Backbencher, to Leader of Majority and through my stewardship in the Ministries of Defence, Environment and now Health.
I am not cut from the same cloth, certainly not one associated with the disinheritance of widows and orphans.
My priority in my second term as president of South West State is to continue fighting for and delivering progress for all our people. We have a big opportunity to develop our state. We must work together. We will also contribute to the stability and democratisation of Somalia.
