Amnesty worked a lot during the 1980s with trade unions to emphasise that the right to free association and to take industrial action were intimately connected to economic rights. Trade union Amnesty groups also campaigned on behalf of imprisoned unionists...
This work became nowhere near as high profile as its work on torture, but it provides a glimpse into the way that connections between civil and political, and economic and social rights were articulated and acted upon...
