BORING NEWS: Today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russia’s presidential envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, announced Russia will move forward with designing a proposed underwater tunnel across the Bering Strait connecting Russia’s Chukotka region to Alaska.
Russian officials have again stated that using technology from The Boring Company could drastically reduce the project’s cost from over $65 billion (using conventional methods) to under $8 billion.
Dmitriev says he spoke by phone with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to discuss economic cooperation between the two countries.
U.S. officials have not publicly confirmed the call, but Russia said an agreement will be signed to continue design work on the roughly 50-mile tunnel.
Per Dmitriev,"Regarding the tunnel, we’ll have news tomorrow: We’re signing an agreement to continue designing the tunnel. The tunnel will happen."
