More than 100 former judges have filed an ethics complaint against Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, alleging he has used the Justice Department to advance Donald Trump’s personal and political interests.

This is not a routine bar complaint.

The Trump administration just paid Invenergy $765 million to cancel four wind projects. That brings the running total to roughly $2.5 billion in taxpayer money spent to stop energy from being built.

Think about that.

At a time when electricity demand is rising, the Trump administration is spending billions to reduce the amount of power that could reach the grid.

Trump has spent years attacking wind turbines as ugly and inefficient. He is entitled to his opinions about how they look. He is not entitled to make taxpayers finance those opinions.

Seven states have already sued over earlier agreements. Federal courts have repeatedly found legal defects in this administration’s efforts to halt offshore wind development. The administration has cited national security concerns while providing little public evidence to support them, and judges have said they were not convinced.

Strip away the politics and what remains is hard to defend.

Billions in taxpayer money paid to private companies to cancel planned energy projects during a period of rising demand.

Governments usually spend money to build things.

This administration is spending billions to make sure some things never get built.

The Trump DOJ is now arguing in federal court that Elon Musk’s AI company should be allowed to run dozens of unpermitted gas turbines polluting a Black community in Mississippi. They also argued the federal government should have the power to shut down citizen lawsuits like this one entirely. 

This is the Justice Department intervening on behalf of a polluter, against the people breathing the air it’s polluting. 

That’s not protecting national security. That’s protecting Elon Musk. 

Elon Musk just became a trillionaire. The community next to his data center is breathing smog-forming nitrogen oxide and formaldehyde.

This should be on the front page of every newspaper in America.   

Trump’s DOJ just shut down a federal investigation into a coal company owned by Sen. Jim Justice, one of his closest allies, after it racked up tens of thousands of alleged violations for dumping dangerous chemicals into our waterways. A veteran federal prosecutor with 24 years on the job said he had never seen anything like it.  

The man who killed the case was Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal defense lawyer and current Acting Attorney General. This is the same guy who just gave Trump, his family, and his companies permanent immunity from IRS audits. Now Trump wants the Senate to make Blanche’s appointment permanent too.  

Equal justice under law was never supposed to come with exceptions for the President’s friends.  

The pattern isn’t subtle: protect Trump’s friends, prosecute his critics, and get rewarded with more power. That is corruption, plain and simple. Todd Blanche must not be confirmed.

Just four Republicans joined us in signing the Epstein discharge petition to release the files. Today, the White House and DOJ are still obstructing the law.

Of those four Republicans: one left Congress after reported threats from the President and his supporters. One is being primaried in the most expensive Congressional race in American history to be held Tuesday. One, the President is now directly trying to recruit somebody to run against. And the other, is leaving Congress at the end of the year.

Make no mistake about what is happening—this is a direct cover-up of the Epstein case with straight-up intimidation tactics to stop it.

But our Congressional inquiry will continue—tomorrow with an interview with Tova Noel, who was one of the prison guards on duty the night of Epstein’s death.

@mattvanswol @BernieSanders But you're entirely missing the point. No one is saying we should destroy CVS. While Big Pharma and pharmaceutical distribution need urgent reform in terms of price-gouging, the United States is the ONLY major Western country without universal, paid healthcare.

@BadAceMike @BernieSanders These same corporations & their oligarchic stakeholders pay Congress to skew tax deductions so that they don't have to pay income tax. Just because CVS generates balance sheets with paper losses doesn't mean they have no income. If they had none, they'd be defunct, right?
