All this love pouring in for Russell Westbrook, and I don't know, part of me is torn on it.
People clowned 0 for years. Got so nasty his wife had to step in and speak out, and he didn't want his own kids at the games anymore. Now he retires and here come all the flowers.
Would've hit different for him hearing some of that back when the whole internet was booing him, you know?
I dunno. Just a thought. Anyway. Be good to people while they can still hear it and while it still matters.
@AlexiLalas ZERO dollars spent by the federal government for participation in sports. ZERO dollars to Olympics. Every successful country in Europe and South America ensures their top athletes are cared for and that the infrastructure is there. Can't complain if you don't invest.
@jackf1nesse@KillaCamWard@AlexiLalas Go ahead and cut aid, it has nothing to do with this conversation. Furthermore, it would be great if the USA stopped meddling in this region of the world. That would great for everyone.
@stalegum@_Biiggie@AlexiLalas There's no discussion unless you are talking about Olympic men's sports. Apples to oranges but keep going. USA will remain irrelevant in those sports, just don't complain. You get what you pay for.
In Germany, a talented 14-year-old earns his club money. In America, his parents pay the club $15,000 a year.
That single inversion explains why "we will not" is the most accurate line ever written about US soccer.
FIFA built a global system for this. Training compensation and solidarity payments send a cut of every transfer fee back to the clubs that developed the player, from age 12 onward. Develop one future pro and your academy gets paid for a decade. Barcelona's La Masia, Ajax, every Bundesliga academy runs on this logic. The kid is the asset.
US Soccer refuses to enforce those rules. When Seattle's Crossfire Premier claimed its $60,000 share of DeAndre Yedlin's transfer to Tottenham, it got nothing. Claims on the Dempsey and Bradley transfers died partly because the federation couldn't even produce the youth training records.
So American clubs earn zero dollars when a kid turns pro. They earn when a kid enrolls. Which makes the parent the customer, and the product is whatever keeps the parent writing checks: travel tournaments, hotel weekends, $500 showcase events, private training at $100 an hour. Elite pathways run $8,000 to $20,000 a year. A comparable academy spot in Italy costs about 120 euros.
Follow the incentive one level deeper and it gets darker. A club dependent on fees can't cut its weakest paying players, so rosters optimize for retention over development. The scouting pool shrinks to families who can afford the cliff, which appears around age 11, exactly when development matters most. The country runs a talent filter sorted by household income instead of ability.
Every four years someone proposes fixing this. The proposal always requires the people profiting from the $15,000 model to vote themselves out of business.
They will not.
What a sad, sad 24 hours.

As my partner Chuck D says,,, I would rather live in peace than rest in peace.
You’re trying to defend a silly, indefensible position, so it doesn’t matter who you tag in or the format because ultimately you’ll look like a clown (again). Just take the L and do something revolutionary — like, I dunno, govern in a way that actually helps people.
Every De La Soul Is Dead track still slays. Incredible beats and lyricism. Ahead of its time. My kid loved it. I was worried he’d think the skits were corny but they had him rolling. Each one of De La’s first four albums now streaming are 5 Mic Classics.
Aunt Jemima is based on the Mammy stock character who was posited as “proof” that Black women were contented, even happy, as slaves. It also served as a counter to the rampant raping of Black women by white men and other terrors suffered by Black women working in the “Big House.”
“In Louisiana, black women were put in cells with male prisoners and some became pregnant. In 1848, legislators passed a new law declaring that all children born in the penitentiary of African American parents serving life sentences would be property of the state. The women would
