A big thank you to all the brilliant doctors, nurses and healthcare staff who work to save lives and support wellbeing, as we celebrate the 300th anniversary of Guy’s Hospital.
At the hospital’s Cancer Centre, The King spent time with chemotherapy patients, nurses and doctors. This year marks six decades of oncology at Guy’s, and the centre consolidates services once spread across 13 sites.
At the King’s College Innovation Hub, His Majesty, who is Patron of King’s College London, heard how professors and students are using AI and robotics to treat patients, and to train the next generation of specialists who are shaping the future of cancer research.
Big appreciation for our Nurses Week sponsors ❤️
Because of your support, we’re able to celebrate nurses in a bigger, more visible way across the country.
Thank you for helping us shine a light on The Power of Nurses™.

Why is there such obsession with extending lifespan when the bigger issue is that average healthspan is 65 years and there are no data (except in super-centenarians) that longer lifespan = longer healthspan (known as compression of morbidity)?
STORY TIME: Don’t Cry for Me, but Cry for What We Become Without Humanity. (ENGLISH/SPANISH)
I have spent much of my life defending dignity in moments of #vulnerability. As a physician and #palliative care advocate, I have learned that #humanity is tested most when people feel powerless. I never imagined that I would have to defend my own #dignity in this way, after an experience that left me humiliated and without a meaningful response from those who had a responsibility to acknowledge what happened.
@KLM@AirFranceKLM told me that my experience would be treated as a matter of “internal awareness.” I find this deeply troubling. Awareness without acknowledgment is not accountability. Learning without response is not justice. When a person reports humiliation and harm, the answer cannot remain hidden inside an institution.

My mother, Dr. Shyamala Gopalan Harris, came to this country at 19 years old to pursue an education and a life of purpose. Everything my sister and I became began with the love she raised us with and the sacrifices she made.
Today, I am thinking of her and wishing a happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers, stepmoms, grandmothers, godmothers, and aunties who shape, inspire, and love us.
In every department and throughout communities up and down the country, nurses make up the fabric of our NHS.
Thank you.
Happy International Nurses Day. #IND2026
🆕 Hastings Bioethics Forum essay:
After a suicide attempt, a 71yr old woman arrived in the ICU in shock—but breathing on her own. A DNR request, scribbled on a napkin 📝, was found beside her.
Should it be honored?

Analysis of gut microbes can reveal whether a person faces an elevated risk of Parkinson’s disease before they have developed any clinical symptoms. Researchers found that people with Parkinson’s and healthy individuals at genetic risk of the disease share a distinctive makeup of gut microbes, strengthening the evidence for a link between gut health and neurodegeneration. https://t.co/ZmiiktJNHI
