New York City is grappling with a disturbing surge in shoplifting orchestrated by organized migrant crews across its boroughs. Each day, major retailers like Macy's in Manhattan face between 12 to 20 shoplifting incidents, where perpetrators brazenly taunt NYPD officers as their "amigos." Initially released with tickets, more offenders are now being processed through the justice system.

Hotspots such as Queens Center Mall, Atlantic Avenue Mall in Brooklyn, and King's Plaza Mall report frequent arrests, yet swift releases perpetuate a growing sense of impunity. Even Midtown Manhattan's Target store has become a battleground, with thefts often escalating into confrontations.

These crews operate with alarming sophistication, not only in shoplifting but also in pickpocketing, with some members accumulating arrest records ranging from 20 to 40 times. Adding to the complexity, they exploit children to carry out thefts, complicating law enforcement efforts.

They particularly target Macy's in Manhattan, drawn by its status and ample opportunities for high-value thefts.

Beyond financial losses, the safety risks are severe. Reports abound of store workers being slashed by desperate thieves, while officers have been bitten during arrests.

In response, the NYPD has mobilized specialized units and implemented advanced surveillance technologies, including strategic camera placements to monitor key locations. Despite these efforts, the persistence of these crimes has forced closures of once-thriving retail establishments.

Mayor Adams acknowledges the stark reality: a small cadre of repeat offenders perpetuates the majority of these incidents. Urgent and effective measures are needed to safeguard New York City's vibrant retail ecosystem and restore order to its streets amidst this ongoing crisis.

Migrants who have been waiting months in central Mexico were able to once again get on freight trains headed to northern Mexico.

Previously, this is how they arrived by the thousands to Eagle Pass and entered illegally into the US. With ongoing train operations in the state of Coahuila, it is unknown how far north they will be able to travel.
